On a positive note , Ferrari is looking very good again! I know, it means nothing but the relative ease with how they set their fast times on C3 tires while others need C4 to come close and the number of laps they do without any hickups is truly impressive!

Interesting that they are saying the cars are heavier and a lot reporting to have porpoising effects, haven't heard that term for many a year, the joys of "ground effect".

The porpoising effect is really weird and must be very uncomfortable for the drivers!

Well, my question about the Uralkali sponsorship at Haas is answered! The Haas car will have a plain white livery tomorrow.

the cars as I have said do look much better and good on Hass, so does that mean their Russian driver is not driving for them any more?
re the appendages that cover a small part of the front wheels, are they aero aids or something more complicated?

Russian Grand Prix is cancelled. Haas will review their sponsorship deal with Uralkali.
Chris, those front wheel covers are part of the mandatory aero kit to improve the airflow and create less 'dirty air'.

That was a more than interesting test session at Barcelona. Completely new, much better looking cars and despite the strict new rules we see a lot of different concepts and solutions. And a new 'old' phenomenon called porpoising! It is still very early days and difficult to judge exactly where everyone stands but some careful conclusions can be drawn nonetheless.
The big two of 2021 have not failed to build a good car and will be in the game for sure. And Ferrari and McLaren may be there to challenge them for the championship... maybe. Norris was fastest on Day 1, Leclerc on Day 2 and the Mercedes pairing made it a one-two on Day 3. But it is interesting to note that Lando did his best lap on the C4 tyre, Charles did it on the C3 tyre and Lewis used the C5 (softest tyre) to go fastest. What gives me, as a Ferrari fan, confidence is the fact that Ferrari never left the C3 medium tyre and Charles's best time was also the fastest time overall on the C3 tyres although Max came close on 1/10th. Calculating the time gained with softer tyres would make Ferrari fastest of all. But of course we don't know all the variables that were in play like the amount of fuel and how hard the driver was pushing. It was all about getting to know the new car and doing a lot of laps... where Ferrari was also best! But I must not get carried away. It was interesting but it will be even more interesting at the next session in Bahrein where conditions are much warmer and teams will bring updates now they understand their car better. And will try to solve the porpoising problems! And in the meantime, Alfa Romeo presented their new livery. Very nice with more red. © Alfa Romeo

have just heard in the (Danish) News that Russia has now been excluded from *all* sport - so, yes, this seems to be the case.

thanks Mikael, so, if memory serves the 3rd generation Fittipaldi is the reserve driver? that would be amazing if its the case he gets the seat
I see testing is about to start in Bahrain, which would be interesting, will be fascinating and question marks over who is genuine, I wonder if any people or cars will carry the Ukrainian flag.
I have been a Mike Andretti fan since he burst on the scene in Indycars and still believe had he continued in 94 would have been successful, I base that on the banning of electronics in 94. well on most cars anyway [allegedly] - getting used to European driving standards and circuits, and of course Ayrton leaving for Williams, but it was not meant to be, although it appears his dreams of F1 are now as a team owner, what I am puzzled about is the media reporting that this may not be welcome, I am unsure by whom but I for one would warmly welcome him into F1

Well, there was first the news that the FIA decided to allow Russian drivers continue racing under the FIA flag (wasn't that already the case, sort of?) and now I read the UK has banned Russian-licensed drivers from competing in events in the UK.
That is going to be virtually impossible to compete in international series than. Certainly for Nikita Mazepin but also for Danill Kvyat who was going to contest in the WEC this year.
As for Mazepin I do not really feel sorry because he was not F1 material anyway.

Yep, Nikita and daddy's rubles are definitely gone.
Given the fact that mazepin senior was present in the Kremlin on the day of the Russian invasion of Ukraine along with other 'deputies from Russian business circles' and he and his son are not willing to condemn the invasion of Ukraine by Russia, we don't have to be sad about their leaving. On the contrary, good riddance!
"They told us to leave and they took Nikita's car! Can you imagine that?"

On a more positive note (we need those), Max has signed a mega-million bucks deal to stay at the soft drinks company until 2122! And about that vacant Haas seat, I know Pietro Fittipaldi is the reserve driver and it would be a nice opportunity for the young Brazilian. But wouldn't it be cool if Gene made a call to the Herta residence with an offer Colton couldn't refuse? Yes, he would be destined to drive at the back but it would also be a good learning experience without too much expectation and a good reference with Mick as teammate. Just a thought...

Good riddance indeed as he should have been nowhere near a F1 car in the first place.
On a more light hearted note how about the Haas being painted bright yellow and carrying Copersucar sponsorship for young Piero, of course I am not sure that Copersucar are still in business.

Yeah good idea! And Copersugar most certainly is still in business: Copersugar.com
A call from uncle Emmo should do the trick!
