Masi had to go in reality and not just because of the main topic of conversation, but he also made some pretty poor judgements over the course of the year. He also lacked the authority of Charlie Whiting and that was his major failing in my opinion. The constant and prolonged "grieving" of the mainly Uk motor sport media and online channels did not help, so his position was untenable in the end.

A beauty and a beast in one, the new Ferrari F1-75. This coming week is going to be very important and very interesting for everyone; teams, drivers, fans, the FIA. No one has an idea how competitive he is and no one knows for sure if the new concept works. Quite a unique situation.

The 'real' HAAS VF-22 at Barcelona shakedown. Looks pretty basic to me at first sight but we need more images for the complete picture. With the current geopolitical tensions at the Ukranian border, I always wonder if this will be a talking/tension point where businesses meet like at HAAS, an American team with a Russian sponsor. Or will it just be business as usual? Probably the latter...

Quite a few comments on various internet sites that the Haas is very similar to the Ferrari in design, especially the front wing and side pods. I suppose everyone will know how their cars will perform from what they do on the simulators but what they will not know is how they compare with each other, should be fun seeing how it all unfolds. Which cars will work and which will be left behind; I am sure I am not alone in hoping for a change in the guard . Saw some interesting things on YouTube last evening with SLH saying how much better he was going to be this year, and on the other hand old Citron Chops Marko saying that Russell was only good at qualifying.

Unless Putin withdraws I can see some enforced changes to the calendar.

it is a very scary proposition that is occurring in the Ukraine and Putin's sense of things, it could have the most serious ramifications for us all so fingers crossed that money talks louder than ambition
The Cars are a marked improvement, their front-ends look more like racing cars than their predecessors - so we go forward with a slight realistic optimism
Are we getting near the prediction stage?
I am not in the least surprised masi has gone, not necessarily for the Abu fiasco but for the comparative weakness he showed, and didn't it reinforce just how good and sadly missed Charlie was. has it been announced who his replacement is?

They have brought in two chaps who will alternate from race to race. I can't remember their names. Herbie Blash has also been recalled to act as a buffer like he used to do for Charlie.

And last but not least, the Alpine A522! A striking livery which they will run in reverse at the first two races. So dominantly pink to start with and then flipped to blue for the rest of the season! Original.

The first 2022 test will begin tomorrow morning in Barcelona where the drivers will have their first real taste of the new machinery!
Unfortunately behind closed doors but I'm sure there will be some images and data available at the end of the day.

Ok, first day of practice with the new cars is done!
Best time of 1m19.568s for Lando Norris in the McLaren. Leclerc was fastest for most of the day but was jumped in the end by Lando. Carlos third in the other Ferrari and then Russell, Hamilton, Vettel, Tsunoda, Alonso and Verstappen. Lando was on a softer grade tire compared to the Ferraris and Mercs though to set his best time.
Do these times mean anything? Well, pole time last year was 1m16.741s (Hamilton) but we don't know yet if these new cars are slower or faster then last year's cars. But I'm sure they've not pushed to the limit yet and it's still very early days.
The big teams did the most laps though and looked very strong. Alfa and Haas had some issues to get running.

F1 needs to swiftly cut the 23 GP's planned for 2022 down to 22! Wonder why they, even today, are still listing 23 on their homepage.

Sebastian Vettel says he will not race in one of them even if the FIA drag its feet!

Absolutely Mikael. Official F1 statement is saying that it was "closely watching the very fluid developments" in Ukraine, and "will continue to monitor the situation".
There is nothing to monitor and they should dare to make a statement (by cancelling the race at Sochi) that what is happening in Ukraine is very wrong and unacceptable. They should take an example from Seb Vettel!
