Not much going on at the moment besides some staff changes here and there. And the positions of Michael Masi and Nicolas Tombazis are apparently unsure... yawn... and then there's of course the ungoing rumor that Sir Lewis could retire from F1. And an even bigger rumor claims that Seb will replace Lewis. Ah well, it's the off-season....
It is currently all one big "yawn", just gossip to make up page space in a dismal off season except for a really excellent Dakar Rally which brought some compelling viewing here. I think Nicolas Tombazis has left Renault René and that according to one of the motor sport news sites mid week. However the "will he; won't he" is getting tedious.

Yep, a big yawn feast. Nikolas Tombazis is head of FIA single seaters by the way and the word is he has to step down, like Masi, because of what happened in Abu Dhabi. The FIA wants to make a statement... hmmm.

Maybe/probably Masi is not the right person for the job anyway, as there have been many more controversies than Abu Dhabi. Also, he doesn't create respect around himself naturally; team bosses give him a "no!" without a millisecond of hesitation.
The FIA Race Director should have/enjoy the same level of respect as a Judge at High Court. Someone like Alain Prost would probably be good; I don't think anyone would dare to question his decisions, if he were the Race Director. Danish Tom Kristensen might be good too; I think he would enjoy the same level of respect (as Alain Prost would).

Yes I would agree Mikael. Masi seems like a descent man but he doesn't have the natural authority as Charlie Whiting had and he has made mistakes. We all make mistakes but he is the chief referee so he shouldn't make too many. It's not an easy job though. Indeed, maybe someone like Prost or Kristensen but I have no idea if they would aspire such position. But I see what you mean.

Total Brain Fart on my behalf there René, not paying enough attention and mistook Tombazis with Marcin Budkowski, I wouldn't have made such a mistake some years back but in mitigation I was more interested back then . Masi has not impressed me all last season with some very poor decisions which include the Copse Corner incident. A difficult job for certain but he does not come across as having the right level of authority. Martin Brundle has said that getting shot of him will not make any difference. Maybe if they shut the likes of Tonto and Horner up and treated them like football mangers/coaches who are dealt with by referees on the side lines then we might move forward. The other shame is that this is being allowed to roll over into the new season, and thereby polite that as well when we should be having a "new beginning". Sad!

Yep it is all becoming very tedious and it seems that Woolfe and SLH are trying to reprise the Senna/ Dennis/ Balestre spat of 1989/90. I watched a Sky programme earlier today with all the usual suspects and the debate is still raging. Martin Brundle seemed to be the only neutral one and therefore spoke the most sense.
I think that the FIA needs to exert it's authority and bring the likes of Woolfe and Horner into line. If they don't like it then sell up and go and play in another sandpit.

No sweat JC, it’s not that interesting. But I very much agree it’s a shame this still lingers on. The FIA should have dealt with this immediately after the Abu Dhabi race. Not strong.

I understand Lewis is still undecided whether or not to continue and all kinds of words are flying around, personally I would be surprised if he did quit after that fiasco,
One wonders if the delays are caused by the changing of the president and what Liberty want, one thing it is doing is keeping F1 in some sort of news - just not really the sort of news that inspires enthusiasm
Do we have any launch dates yet? I am intrigued as to what people are going to produce, presumably they will be computer designed? so does that mean they will all look similar?

Chris Launch dates start with Aston Martin on 10 Feb, followed by McLaren on 11 Feb, Mercedes on 13 Feb and Ferrari on 17 Feb. I think those dates are correct but haven't checked back so are from memory. I think the will he, won't he scenario is being deliberately manipulated to keep F1 in the public eye, especially in the UK where the press seem to delight in repeating the same article in different newspapers every couple of hours or so. Getting very tiresome but they only have until around 20 March at the latest so it too will pass.

All still quiet on the F1 front.
I assume Hamilton is just relaxing somewhere and will return on time to start preparations for the new season. Nothing is impossible but I would be surprised if he really stopped. I do understand his frustration and disappointment though. The Abu Dhabi events was a bit like a questionable penalty in the last minute of the extra time. And it is not a given that he will ever get another shot at an 8th title. But it is what it is and Max will have the #1 on his car.
But I do feel an extra buzz for this season with the all new cars coming. A few more weeks...

Thanks Rob, I shall look out for them as for SLH I am pretty sure he will give it another go as he will see that as an injustice

Finally some serious news today, actually very big news: Honda will stay in F1 and continue their engine supply to Red Bull and Alpha Tauri to 2025. That is very good news if you ask me. Honda is a big name and their initial decision to leave F1 seemed strange after just winning the championship. That must have led to some strong discussions in the Honda boardroom and now they decided to stay after all. I am sure Max will be happy also.

That is good news indeed, Honda on the F1 front have always gone their own way so to speak and given how challenging their journey to get to the championship was I am pleased to see they are staying. All we need now is a few more competitive engines/ thingys -
I have seen what purports to be the 2022 RB car, if it is the real thing it is a massive improvement on the previous 10 years but we will wait and see
if this is the case I may well think about going down for the Friday practice
