No other marque is more evocative than Ferrari, but it will be something strange. You know, Scuderia Ferrari running Alfas(with great succes) from 1930 to 1937, now Ferrari Power Units with Alfa badge. P.S. The Ferrari Cavalino badge appeared for the first time on an Alfa at Spa 24H race in 1932. Ferrari effectively was born out of Alfa Romeo. The brands are very much connected, even if they challenged each other on the track many times. I made these pictures about seven years ago at the local car show. Alfa's with Scuderia badges. Isn't it wonderful!

Carl wrote "If the man being devoured by the dragon on the Alfa-Romeo emblem is meant to be Sergio Marchionne, Alfa is courting trouble and should go its own way. But I approve." I never ever noticed there was a man being devoured by a dragon until now and I love Alfa's. I believe that was an early element of the emblem and was later removed. That style of illustration was popular in the Middle Ages to describe dangers at sea when no-one knew what whales were beyond monstrous, or wanted to risk falling over the edge of the world. The ignorance and misinformation during the Dark Ages are rivaled today within certain White Houses.

I don't know if Ferrari was born from Alfa, but pretty sure Alfa 158 was Enzo's(and Colombo;s) project. His last baby, after that quitting the ship. Alfa 158 won 26 consecutive GPs-a record that still stand today.

Carl, this is not just confined to the White House, but a certain decadent building in London as well, [ignorance and misinformation] whose distortion of facts would amaze a fantasist writing a hallucinogenic novel, or was that the other way round?
Valentin, wonderful new avatar - The 158 was a truly amazing piece of machinery and a gorgeous sound, it looked quick and menacing - especially with Farina's ruthlessness, when Enzo left Alfa it went went well but when Carlo et al left Ferrari in 1962 to form ATS it was not a success, but I was never clear why it didn't succeed?

But when Enzo was racing Alfa's and then became team manager there was a very strong bond. And when he finally broke up with Alfa Romeo he is quoted as saying it felt like betrayel, even more when his own build Ferrari beat an Alfa for the first time he once said, with Italian feeling for drama, he felt like he murdered his mother! The emergence of Ferrari is inseparable with Alfa Romeo. A special connection.

Alfa Romeo is officially back in F1 as Alfa Romeo Sauber. I wonder how long it will be before the Sauber is dropped.

Well I expected to be disappointed by the Sauber / Alfa livery and.......I am. Thats not to knock Sauber of course, but I would have loved to have seen more blood red on the car.
Its not a real Alfa effort however so maybe its about right....
