I well remember this car and its concept, but seeing it with it's bodywork removed I cannot image even stepping into it let alone driving the thing at racing speed; a very brave man Vic Elford.
A couple of editions back there was a feature on this in the French Quarterly AutoDiva.

Riverside 1970, sportscar ace Vic Elford in the 2J Chev leads Peter Gethin in the championship winning McLaren M8D Chev. Hulme won the race in the other M8D, Gethin DNF engine on lap 21 and Elford DNF engine on lap2.

Rene, A very telling photograph of a radical Chaparral, a depressed crowd and an M8D meant for Bruce McLaren and taken over briefly by Dan Gurney, who won the first two races before, I believe because of sponsor conflict, yielding to the very short Peter Gethin, who doesn't quite measure up to a rollbar modified for the very tall Gurney.
I don't know why the Turn 6 grandstand isn't more crowded. The death of the immensely popular Bruce McLaren and the bitter arguments about the sucker car may have depressed attendance. Nobody liked either the 2H or 2J. Chaparral was effectively gone and some thought Jim Hall had gone slightly mad. A very good photograph but not a good year...
Cheers, Carl

The "very brave man" is standing partly out of frame with left hand perhaps revealing his tension.

I had completely forgotten about that photo - and all the others I have posted.
Since I have a new personal laptop I am using Explorer, instead of Firefox, and it doesn't allow me to post pictures [no "copy location" available].

That's a shame Lucio, you have posted some great pictures. Is there no other way with Exploder? Sigh...Microsoff...

Windows 10 is a worthless piece of software. There, I said it.

Windows 10 is on the quality-level of Windows Vista, that's what comes to mind when using it. Annoying, irritating, ... The worst thing is the automatic updating over which you have only little control. When you're just about to leave your hotel room for a meeting and "just" want to give your presentation a last look -- and Windows 10 then automatically starts on a lengthy update and cannot be shut down - then you really come to love it!
Quite "amazing" that Windows won over much better products (such as Unix which is solid as a rock) due to clever marketing (through default installation on virtually any PC) rather than due to quality. But of course the same thing happened back in the days of the video recorder, where the by far superior Video 2000 lost out to Betamax and VHS.

Microsoft wants to control every aspect of the internet experience and I have also bound and gagged Cortana. Cortana!! What the hell is Cortana?? What's the point, Bill Bloody Gates? I changed my laptop last month, before coming down here, my previous one still ran on Windows 7. No nonsense like Cortana around in that one. I bought a laptop with SSD as storage, rather than hard disk. This meant that my storage is limited to 256GB - nominal, much less in reality - so I am trying not to install Firefox to save on space, but I am reconsidering. Windows 10 is very annoying, a control freak.

Anyways, going back to Can-Am, it was an utterly mad series, it couldn't have last. However, linking with the discussion about McLaren and F1, it set a general trend. As soon as a manufacturer or someone with resources of a different magnitude wrt the rest or decisive competitive advantage (technical), then the series is doomed. The same happened with World Sportscar Championship, killed by the same people as Can-Am - Porsche. At the moment at Le Mans, the Toyotas are lapping seven seconds quicker than anybody else. I would suggest cycling, but even that one has been killed off by scientific doping, so... what's left? Fly fishing.

Mikael and Lucio,
I am not an engineer and my needs are more easily satisfied. I was happy with Windows 7 and wanted to keep it, but my old desktop was approaching the end and Windows 10 came with every replacement I wanted, so I hesitated to think and research my options. I began seeing more frequent blue screens and ten million pixel freeze frames, so I bought the replacement desktop I wanted regardless of the OS. I dislike the occasional pitch for Microsoft Edge or Windows firewall, often presented deceptively, but otherwise it's okay for my casual needs.
Can-Am became like Frankenstein's monster, which also self-destructed in the end. The Sports Car Club of America and its Canadian equivalent, like Victor Frankenstein, were delighted with their creation until losing control.
Cheers, Carl

Not to worry, Carl, just a bit of fun with the novelty (for me) of Windows 10, there are more pressing matters in life.
