I have sent invitations to Leigh Diffey, David Croft, and their top producers to an exclusive party in a London hotel which has a small airtight elevator easily controlled remotely. That motorsport broadcasting can be saved, they are doomed.
Carl,
while you're at it, maybe you could also send a card to those video editors working for F.I.M. who think that even the World Championship races in motocross are best viewed with a noisy sound "underlay" of heavy rock music?! Just like the lowbrow narration of David Croft et al., such motorcycle rock videos are grist to the mill of those who tend to look a bit down on motorsport. And for the middleaged fan, it's painful to watch - it's spoiled goods. (Phew ... now I feel better )

(Phew ... now I feel better ) Mikael, You're exactly right about the use of bad heavy metal music as background soundtrack and the contempt it shows for motorsport. These production companies must actually think all race fans are heavy metal stoners, when in fact they themselves are the idiots. If any sport deserves a heavy metal soundtrack, it's golf. The hotel freight elevator is large enough to hold everyone and a 15 story freefall to the tune of bad heavy metal at 150 decibels is planned. Cheers, Carl

Acura Grand Prix of Long BeachThe season finale and the championship decider this weekend on the streets of Long Beach! Álex Palou is the points leader and favorite for the title but both Patricio O’Ward and Josef Newgarden are still in with a shot at the championship. One crash or one bad pit stop can throw everything upside down so Álex needs to play it safe. He has been very cool headed so far this season so let’s see if he can handle the pressure of winning a possible first IndyCar title. I believe he can and it would be well deserved.
One of the favorites for the race win, next to the three championship contenders, must be Colton Herta. Victory at St. Pete’s and an almost win on the streets of Nashville shows how good he is on a narrow street course. This is going to be very exciting for sure! One of these three is going to be the 2021 IndyCar champion, Josef Newgarden, Patricio O'Ward or Álex Palou.

Long Beach should be an exciting race. Despite the numerous course alterations leaving less than 40% of the original circuit, somehow close racing is retained.
Any of the championship contenders may win, but the podium is wide open for Scott Dixon, Alexander Rossi, Rinus Veekay, Romain Grosjean, Felix Rosenqvist, or a surprise entry from our round table.

Carl, unfortunately Joe vetoed my visa so will have to sit this one out,
Laguna Seca, Long Beach, what wonderful evocative circuits and places, oh I just wish F1 was back there,
I think it will be a brilliant race with a lot of yellows and excitement, I am going for Jack Harvey and hopefully he can win on his swan song with Meyer, which would be wonderful poetry.

Long Beach qualifying was eventful, with several drivers spoiling their chances by poor strategy and brushing walls (Colton Herta and Alex Palou), others very slow for no clear reason (Sebastien Bourdais, Rinus Veekay and Oliver Askew) and a few who did extremely well (polesiter Josef Newgarden, Scott Dixon, Felix Rosenqvist and Romain Grosjean) Chris, your favorite was doing well until hitting the tyre barrier at Turn 8 1. Josef Newgarden 1:08.2241 2. Scott Dixon 1:08.4422 3. Helio Castroneves 1:08.4827 4. Simon Pagenaud 1:08.6514 5. Felix Rosenqvist 1:08.7461 6. Romain Grosjean 1:08.7577 7. James Hinchcliffe 1:08.7143 8. Pato O’Ward 1:08.8339 9. Ed Jones 1:08.8797 10. Alex Palou 1:08.9464 11. Ryan Hunter-Reay 1:09.1330 12. Will Power 1:09.1941 13. Scott McLaughlin 1:08.8611 14. Colton Herta 1:09.1094 15. Alexander Rossi 1:08.9946 16. Takuma Sato 1:09.3814 17. Marcus Ericsson 1:09.1368 18. Callum Ilott 1:09.4360 19. Graham Rahal 1:09.3998 20. Charlie Kimball 1:09.6793 21. Conor Daly 1:09.5816 22. Sebastien Bourdais 1:09.7022 23. Max Chilton 1:09.4106 24. Rinus VeeKay 1:09.7602 25. Jack Harvey 1:10.4664 26. Dalton Kellett 1:09.9144 27. Jimmie Johnson 1:10.5127 28. Oliver Askew 1:10:0178

Carl, are the two young title candidates cracking under pressure?
Josef Newgarden (2 titles, 20 wins) will be hard to beat if his Penske is working well. And in a way he has nothing to lose. All he must do is win the race and then hope Palou and O'Ward will not finish too high up. That doesn't look like an unlikely scenario now.
Like the F1 race, all ingredients are there to make it an exciting race!

René, Alex Palou was calm despite having to slow on a fast qualifying lap for a local yellow at the penultimate corner, but after the same misfortune, Patricio O'Ward was seething that some others hadn't slowed, a possible unfair advantage still unresolved. Colton Herta starts 14th after bending a rear toe link against a concrete barrier before he could change to the faster tyre compound. All three will be determined to get to the front. Add the sometimes reckless abandon of Will Power, Takuma Sato and Helio Castroneves and corner workers may wear out their arms.
Hopefully everyone behaves. It should be an exciting race.

The Indycar race at Long Beach was momentous at the start and exciting throughout. Ed Jones incredibly managed to take out a championship contender on the first lap by rear-ending Pato O'Ward at the hairpin, not only ruining the prospects of a victory and series championship for the driver and team, but also the excitement of anticipation from fans. O'Ward was right to call the incident and driver stupid.
Watching yesterday's qualifying and today's race, I spent some time focusing on what remains of the original circuit. The steep incline of Pine Avenue is just beyond today's Turn 8 and the sudden drop of Linden Avenue (the old Turn 1) is just before Turn 9. I've always understood the inconvenience to businesses of using the main commercial street, Ocean Boulevard, as part of a race track, but these two sections were iconic, unlike the fairly ordinary fountain at Turns 2 and 3 called iconic by Leigh Diffey in his best delusional eloquence. He calls his scrambled eggs iconic at breakfast.
Close racing all day with several great passes kept me interested. A well deserved championship for Alex Palou, who drove brilliantly all season.

That was a great race to watch, very enjoyable! And a well deserved win for Colton Herta.
But the man of the day was of course Álex Palou. Fantastic to win the title in your second year in IndyCars! As Chip Ganassi said, there is a lot more to come from the young Spaniard. What a talent!
It was a great IndyCar season with a well deserved champion!

what a race, wonderful and I hope Ed Jones is penalised next year for his stupidity, despite the numerous changes it is still a good circuit, not quite as iconic as the original by any means, I may just look at the 1982 race again....
a great season and thanks to youtube for letting me watch the highlights

Of course, this kind of contact can happen on a street course but you must be aware of the fact there is a championship contender in front of you. And obviously he wasn't! Such a shame for O'Ward even if the chances of winning the title were slim but finishing like this sucked.
