Using pictures and videos in your posts

Here is a brief explanation how to add pictures and videos to your posts:

Attach pictures

I think all of you have already discovered how to attach an image. This is simple and straightforward and the only limitation is the file size of max. 1MB per image and 3 images per post. Also the image will show small in your post and you need to click it to see it full size.
To attach an image, just click on the 'add attachment' button in the Reply section and select the image file located on your device.



Insert pictures



Another way to add pictures is to insert an image directly in your post by using the 'insert image' button. This way you have no limitation regarding file size (although I would recommend to keep file sizes low) and no limitation regarding the number of pictures in one post. Another pro is the fact your images will show nicely full size. But to do this you need to have a picture collection stored on an external server or in the cloud somewhere.

Insert an image as follows: Go to your image collection and copy the external (or share) link to your selected image. Then click the 'insert image' button in the Reply section and a pop up screen will appear where you can paste the link that you copied in the Image URL field. Click 'insert image' and done. By clicking on Preview you can see how your post will look when published.

ADDITION: You can also insert images from online databases like for instance f1-history.deviantart.com/gallery/
Select the image you want to insert and Control-click (for Mac) or Right-click (for PC) and select 'Copy image location'. Then follow the steps as described by pasting this link in the Image URL field.



Insert (You Tube) Videos



You can also insert videos in the same way as explained for the pictures. Either from your personal video collection stored on an external server or directly from Youtube. So if you copy a link from Youtube you can use the 'insert video' button and paste the link in the Video URL field (you can leave the size field as Default). Now your selected video will show directly on your post.

ok, here goes- no sorry Rene it's saying the image is too big? dohhh, you may not believe this but I actually use 3 computers daily - one work, one business both microsoft and my imac, so its not that I am adverse to this technology it is simply a bit of a paradox to me 
am going to try your other methods and get back to you,

Chris, are you sure the picture you are trying to attach is not bigger than 1MB? It won't accept bigger images.

i've no idea Rene, it just says it is too big, these are photos taken by my phone - so if they are 3mb then that is the answer, but thanks for your patience, thanks to microsoft my other computer is nigh on impossible to use - after contacting them 38 times to fix a fault they created by their upgrade i despair so please forgive my lack of knowledge

As mentioned before, it is really essential the file size doesn't exceed 1MB when attaching an image. When you take a picture with a modern smart phone the photo will always be much bigger so you will need to reduce its file size (reduce pixel size) with a photo editor.

Further to René's excellent "How To" with regard to uploading photos from your source to this site I have found something that may help or be of interest. Like some of you I expect, uploading photos/images was getting a bit tedious for me with only small pictures appearing in a post of mine and being restricted to how many at one time.

After a discussion with René I tried using an image hosting service DropBox which was fine for storing images in a Cloud system but I could not get it to upload with any sense of reliability. I then did some online research and came across a site which offered a simple solution. Funnily enough it is based in Holland but nothing associated with René. The service it offers is Free and you do not need to sign up for anything, just begin uploading at will. The site is quite straightforward in operation and has worked for me now for over a week with great results.


If anyone wishes for more detail and a walk through guide I am at your disposal.
