Gents, Reading the modelling exploits in this section has really made me want to build another model, something I haven't done for a good 15ish years. Been looking on the net to see if I can buy a model kit of my favourite racing car ever - the Sauber Mercedes C11 group C car, but drawing a blank. I'd ideally like a 1/24 or 1/12 scale kit - any ideas of where I should search etc gratefully received

Don't know much about the C11, Jamie, but I have book by Ian Bamsey ("Sauber-Mercedes C9, the return of the Silver Arrows"), although the mostly black and white photos are not always terribly clear.

Funnily enough, I nearly bought a copy of that book whilst at the Goodwood FOS this year but they wanted £95 for it and I decided against it in the end (bought yet more Clark related stuff instead ). The C9 was a great car, and competitive, but the C11 was a step up in sophistication in virtually every respect. I've been up close to a C11 a few times and the quality of the build is outstanding, the fit and finish is absolutely top draw and amazing for a functional racing car. Also, it's the best looking Group C car in my opinion, very simple uncluttered lines with a very purposeful stance and......it was stupendously fast!! Attachment Deleted

Yes, it seems a hard one to find. Appreciate you having a look for it 👍 I'd be tempted by the RC version.....my young sons would love it for sure, but I'd really like to build a model kit - your exploits have wetted my appetite!

Hi Jamie I have done a quick search at the nearest I could come up with is a Studio 27 1/24 Mercedes 291 Curbside Kit. I think the only C11 model was Tamiya's 1/10 RC car which your sons would love but I think would leave you unfulfilled. I agree with your view that the C11 was the best looking of the Sauber Mercedes by far but for some reason the model makers ignored it. Tamiya make a superb C9 in both the silver and Kouros liveries.

If I may, Jamie, my humble opinion is do not spend £95 on that book, just not worth it. Horton's are quite expensive booksellers.

Sorry chaps but I have to disagree with you. For me the best looking is the C9 in Kouros livery driven by young Thackwell. I built the 1/43rd Starter resin kit back in its heyday and beautiful thing it is.

I could easily make a case for the C9 as well especially in the Kouros livery as you say ( I like the AEG livery as well) but the C11 I really drool over 🤤 All the Sauber Merc cars were good looking beasts, including the C291.

Yes, much as I wanted it....it’s no way worth £95.

Thanks for looking Rob. I think I’ll maybe look for a c9 👍

Jamie, I find it interesting also that in the MotorSport Magazine publication "Great Racing Cars" (of 2014), while other great racing cars are covered on one, two, or at most four pages, this car, the C11, gets, as the only one, a full six pages of coverage. Another indication that this was something really special.

It really was Mikael.....the pinnacle of Group C development I think.

Thought I'd put up a link of the C11 in action onboard at Spa.
Rui Aguas is driving at a historic event and not hanging around......just listen to the engine note, absolutely wonderful.
