Yes! Those little 1.5 litre F1 cars were simply sublime and it was during this short era that car and tyre development really took off. Many beautiful machines from 1961 through until 1965, and that 1962 Lotus 25 with its full sized screen and smooth lines was an absolute beauty.
With regard to the 1956 French GP at Reims the film of the race is superb and captures brilliantly racing at that time. The Vanwall was flying that day and gave glimpses of what was to come in the following two years. Harry Schell had some great days and that as one of them, but for me I remember him from the days when he was a factory BRM driver alongside the wonderful Jean Behra and super smooth Ron Flockhart.
Chris, I purchased a used copy of the Peter Revson biography a couple of years ago after some of got into a discussion on MS about him. He was such a good driver and as Carl says far better than many would like to think, also extremely versatile and he worked hard at his career without a shadow of family backing. A sad and tragic end when he could have done so much in the new Shadow DN3.

There is so much more to following motorsport than the "Hamilton is the best or Vettel should get fired and if you don't agree with me I will punch you" comments that are so tedious on other forums. The comments on this thread alone prove that. Great comment Rob......my thoughts exactly.

Is it just me or am I being over sensitive, however my email inbox seems to be inundated with things from MS at present. Obviously the "lock down" is making them more inclined to attract readers/subscribers into buying there grossly over priced wares. The prices off the items they are advertising are unreal, they must think that all readers are rich toffs who can afford to throw money away on things that in reality are mere trinkets. Something like £250 for old recreated race posters . Also could someone tell me the ethics of selling models autographed by drivers who are no longer alive, and the model having been produced after the late drivers passing!

My apologies Rob, I had intended to comment on your wonderful words as per Jamie, thank you Jamie for reminding me, but I am not even looking at the MS forum these days, and won't bother with Autosports and for some reason I cannot log onto Crash's one, but generally don't bother now
many years ago I used to belong to a classic film forum, and for some reason this person took an intense dislike to me, maybe an anti-Brit I don't know and was subject to his scorn and dislike to the point of having to leave it, which was a shame as two of my fellow forumers both Americans, one an ex Submarine Captain had become close to but rather like the vitriol we witnessed in MS it was no longer viable which is why places like this are a treasure and you are all - well you know as you say Rob, there is so much more

You are not being sensitive at all Charles. I am getting about three a day, most of which I delete before reading. I agree with you on the ethics question. It must so obviously be a fake. If people didn't buy these things then they wouldn't produce them. I

Goodness me even more of the blessed adverts in my email inbox today, five of the blighters I believe at the current count. I am going to consign MS emails to Spam at this rate as it is getting more than annoying.

Goodness me even more of the blessed adverts in my email inbox today, five of the blighters I believe at the current count. I am going to consign MS emails to Spam at this rate as it is getting more than annoying. Motor Sport must be desperate for revenue. I haven't gotten any product advertisements via email, but have been annoyed for some time at the magazine's extended sections showcasing very expensive watches presented as valid content, and more legitimate articles which nonetheless promote classic car auction specialists and other firms somehow connected to motor or sport, in a sense publicity for which money probably changes hands.
It's a shame that print magazines are struggling so hard, and I don't blame the editors for trying to survive, but every month I notice articles that blend commercial messages with journalism. I'm not sure I will renew my subscription.

it is interesting that my inbox is being bombarded not just by MS but by so many other companies, it really is a sad indication of today's plight, on the one hand there are some magnificent bargains to be had on the other hand do i really want to order online for so many things I don't actually need? apart from my books of course
it is a shame Carl and my world would be a lot sadder without MS - despite its appalling forum, but at the beginning of the day I delete so many emails from the yesterday otherwise i would be swamped, but i would agree about the watches, they obviously pay MS a lot of money to advertise, I have noted the absence of my favourite advertiser, Duncan Hamilton, always looked at his car sales with a wistful feeling, if only....

I am not certain as to whether magazines are classified as essential work in the Uk during this current "stay home" directive. So are they still allowed to be printed and circulated by mail, not via shops as newsagents are closed as afar as I know. It would therefore be assumed that this raft of emails every day are an attempt at raising revenue.
Unfortunately I cannot see the vast majority of subscribers being interested in the stuff they are promoting during these troubled times, or any other for that matter. It would appear to me that MS's marketing department are somewhat at a variance with its average subscriber.
The advertisements that appear in in MS over the past 20 odd years have been weird to say the least, none more so that these ridiculous watch ads. I know some folk like to have a few watches in their ownership, and some strive to have a pretty expensive marque but to be honest that must be pretty niché. There was a time when its as all very expensive boats which was absurd unless you happen to be Eddie Jordan or Philip Green.
Back in MS's heyday it was used cars and numerous motoring accessories that were not beyond the means of the ordinary person.
