another good read with some excellent articles, wonderful article on the 917, such an evocative car,
but one thing really stood out was a new book from Stirling Moss's secretary or PA something I am looking to add to the ever expanding library, must buy a new house with a bigger attic...

This months mag is a cracker, some great articles in there......lunch with Ralph Firmin and the Stirling articles being particularly good.
MM is definitely getting back to how it should be.

totally agree Jamie,
have ordered three new books, ach, why not? am taking a break from one of the jobs so I need to fill that time up, as if...
Joe started a really good idea and that was to review a book on Mike Hawthorn and I just think that is a great way of sharing our thoughts and perhaps something we as a forum, given everyone's great tastes and abilities could possibly develop?
I have ordered Nick Harris's book on 40 odd years as a commentator of MotoGP, The Stirling book and black and gold the Lotus specials - which if nothing looks like it has some splendid photos and when I pick them up and read them I will follow Joe's lead and open them up to comment

You're right....Joe's idea was a great one, we all seem to enjoy motor racing prose so reviewing books we've read is a no brainer. I look forward to your review on the 3 interesting sounding books (it's no surprise the black and gold book is on your list Chris..), have you gone for the Stirling book that formed the basis of the recent MM article? I rather face that myself, I've never been a huge Stirling fan but found that extract fascinating.

There's no lack of great drama in motorsport.
At the suggestion of Rob, I bought and read "The Last Open Road" by B.S. Levy, a wonderful book about road racing in 1950s America when public roads were used. Sometime this week I expect delivery of a book about race track emergency medical response, "Rapid Response" by Dr. Stephen Olvey, whose experience and instincts saved the life of Alex Zanardi. Publishers tell me my autobiography is most useful as a soporific...

I do think the sharing of our reading would be great, including Carl's long awaited ghosted autobiography - for which I hold my breath in eager anticipation....

Hi Carl
I hope the Olvey book is good. I would perhaps suggest skipping once you get to mention of Gordon Smiley, i don't think there is anything there that would ease the pain of that.

Hi Carl I hope the Olvey book is good. I would perhaps suggest skipping once you get to mention of Gordon Smiley, i don't think there is anything there that would ease the pain of that. Hello Joe, Your suggestion is well taken. His accident was horrible and apparently caused by his road racer instincts to steer opposite. Indy veterans know to steer toward the infield when the rear slides out very wide, otherwise, when the car is balanced and traction regained, the car heads straight into the wall as happened to Gordon Smiley, whose death was instantaneous.
I may very well take your advice because I have no desire to know more about it than I do.
-Carl
