I have already mentioned this project before and showed a small preview once but now it's finally finished!
It is quite unique as no slot car manufacturer has ever made a serious model of this car before and it is hand build. I am pleased with the end result. It looks right and it's big fun to drive! Of course you all know about the 1981 Spanish Grand Prix but here's a small recap anyway. In Spain Gilles qualified 7th but made a blistering start to jump to 3rd. At the end of the first lap he was already in second behind race leader Alan Jones. But when Jones went off on lap 14, Gilles was in the lead. Villeneuve used the power of his Ferrari engine on the straight to gain a little margin and not get overtaken by his rivals (Lafitte, Watson, Reutemann and De Angelis), but in the corners they were all over him. Many times Laffite pulled alongside the Canadian as they went out a corner but the Ferrari would stay ahead as the horsepower kicked in. The five remained locked together right to the flag, crossing the line covered by just 1.24 seconds to record the second-closest race in the history of Formula One! This was to be Gilles Villeneuve’s last victory. Okay, so far for the history, now about the car I made. Bodywork is completely scratchbuild from polystyrene. Chassis and motor from Policar with a Shapeways Williams chassis extension. Front suspension is from the Fly Williams as I wanted the steering to work. I think the first picture explains why, I wanted to have those typical Gilles oversteer moments! The very light body is kept into place with a small button magnet. Decals are by Indycals (thanks Michael for doing the small change on the Olivetti logos!). The typical cooling ribs on the side panels are done with a self made decal. Driver figure, windscreen and mirrors are from SRC. The building process. The result. Gilles forever!

Rene, Absolutely beautiful! At first glance, it actually appears to be Gilles Villeneuve!
Félicitations à vous, Carl

Beautiful scale model racing car René. The bodywork is superb and well made and that requires a great amount of skill. Michael from Indycals is a good guy and makes great decals. I have used some of his stuff in the past. In fact he may be a good guy to join this forum as he appears very knowledgeable and interested in matters motor racing.

That is simply a superb bit of work René and to think that you have created the bodywork etc from scratch is just magnificent, and obviously a labour of love.
Of course you do know what will happen now; some manufacturer will produce a production model of the car. However there can be nothing like a "one off" built by your own fair hand.
Absolutely brilliant and very well done.

Thank you guys! As the model makers will know, making a small scale model like this is very much about capturing the essence of the car. I think this one turned out really well. Rob, that is a good idea. I promised Michael to send him a photo of the finished model so I will ask him if he's interested. He is a racing fan for sure! Indycals: www.indycals.net

Absolutely brilliant and very well done. Thanks again JC. Maybe one of the big manufacturers will make this model in the future but for the time being I am 'safe'. Those manufacturers that make F1 models (Scalextric, Fly, SRC, Slotwings, Carrera) have announced their models for 2019/2020 and the Ferrari is not among them. But of course maybe one of the resin model makers like George Turner or DNQ feel inspired to make a shell. But as you say, when you made it yourself and it turns out well, then you have a special connection to the model. I have spent many spare hours on this car for month, collecting blue prints, pictures and more. The Model Factory Hiro book on the 126CK was of big help. You know how it works.
