Hi guys. Model Factory Hiro have just released this model. I am hoping to get one before they are all sold out but they are very expensive. Yes Rob, at well over £500.00 that is a lot of money for a sale model. Yesterday in one of my musing moods I thought of the truly excellent 1/12th scale Tamiya Ferrari 312T which I didn't actually get at the time. It was an excellent model as were all of the models in that range. I see that there are quite a few for sale on eBay at over £100 still in the box and unbuilt, many from Japan. One of those with updated decals and a set of photo etched parts would be my ideal. I still have an unbuilt Protar 1/12th scale kit of the Ferrari 312T which was very detailed but lacked, for me anyway, the sharpness of a Tamiya.

Yep Charles the Tamiya 312T is still a beautiful kit, especially with the photo etch. It is hard to believe that the original came out over 40 years ago. Even at £100 I would say it is much better value than the MFH kit. At £500 I think it will have to remain on my wish list, as I can add another 35% on top of that to make sure it gets to SA safely.

Looking forward to another masterpiece Rob if you do manage to get one at a 'reasonable' price.
The Tamiya kits of the period were fantastic. Never build one but I do have two original Tamiya catalogues from the late 70s, early 80s. Still enjoy browsing the fantastic pictures of the models and blueprints.

As a Ferrari fanatic you really should try one, either the 312T or the T4 they did later on. With your modelling skills good results would be guaranteed.

And then I'd probably go for the T3 as I already have the T and T4 from Exoto. Edit: but now I realize they made the T3 only in 1/20, not 1/12. Or am I mistaking?

Only in 1/20th scale sadly, although i believe there are some very expensive trans-kits that convert the 312T in 1/12th to later models. P.S. You think you will have more time when you retire René, think again my friend .

Hi René, Protar made the T3 in 1/12 scale some 20+ years ago. Not as well engineered as Tamiya but a very nice model can be made out of it. They may be available on ebay but are like the proverbial rocking horse droppings.

They did the 126CK in 12th a while back so not sure if they have any left as they only make about 500. There are places in the UK where you can get them from. Try Steve at Hiro Boy. They are very expensive but look beautiful when complete. They are multimedia kits and require a lot of pre planning and fettling and you have to be milimetre perfect in construction to get them right. Looking at your engineering skill already displayed here I think you will love them.

Hi Rob
I saw the MFH 12CKs they look absolutely lovely... its just... it's one thing getting a Protar if one is patient enough for one to come down to a low enough price. It's another letting go of of £600-800 plus VAT and import plus shipping.

Absolutely Joe I actually prefer the 1/20 scale MFH kits. They do not take so long to build, are smaller to display and are detailed enough at about 45% of the price.

I've had a good think about this, and i really don't think i can justify the cost of the MFH, especially for something which is, based on the instructions i have downloaded from Spotmodel.com for other cars (incidentally a brilliant site for instructions), an extremely complicated kit for which parts need to be bent or cut precisely. Looking at their instruction: - The shape of the metal parts may be changed. You may restore the shape while you are doing the temporary construction. Please be noticed and pay attention that you may bend the part to certain extend, but there are possibilities to be broken.
- You can change the shape of the resin casting parts. However. Please do not slowly and not to bend the parts too fast.
- Please be noticed that some parts may have to cut a little bit to fit completely in the kit
I'm simply too nervous to spend that kind of money on a kit i will need to be super accurate with, especially given my eyesight now. (Unfortunately i had a detached retina in 2017 necessitating a scleral buckle surgery). I think maybe the new GP Replicas 126CK will suffice, i will still have the Tamiya, Revell and Protar `1:12kits to build anyway, in addition to a Heller RE20 plus Tamiya and Fujimi 1:20 kits.

Joe, MFH models are probably the best on the market and absolutely beautiful when build correctly. But they are really only meant for experienced model makers given what they cost. So I can fully understand what you're saying, I wouldn't dare to start one either!
Have you seen Rob's MFH kit from the 312PB? It's in this section so have a look, it's stunning.
