What an absolutely fabulous race which I viewed from build up to finish thanks to a brilliant HD stream of the NBC transmission, which made ups in some small way for the disappointment of the BSB viewing experience.
Young Colton Herta is a very impressive driver indeed and surely if the media rights holder of F1 are remotely concerned in getting the USA interested in this arena then they should be looking at getting this young man into F1. If anyone doubts the talent currently racing in Indycar then maybe they should look at some comparisons that are available. Marcus Ericsson is going quite well in the series but is not challenging the likes of Herta; Dixon; Rossi and Newgarden etc, however when in F! Marcus wasn't always too far off Charles Leclerc pace.
That aside great to have Leguna Seca back on the Indycar schedule and as the finalé; F1 could lean from this as well in that a classic track is where the season should end not some rich place in a desert with no heritage or character.
There were some great drives as well as Colton's; Scott Dixon ever quick and professional and a charging Simon Paganaud who has really impressed me this year. Also Felix Rosenquist who drove with some fire after his very unfair penalty in qualification. Also huge praise to the evergreen Seb Bourdais who drove beautifully to 7th place with a seriously painful neck injury.
With our continued comments and criticisms of commentary teams here at RRT I must say that I thought the NBC team this weekend were actually quite good. I know that Carl does not have much regard for Aussie Leigh Diffy but I thought that he was quite good this weekend and very much like his old days when he did World Superbikes back in the 1990's; Paul Tracy was also good and not like that one occasion a few months ago when i am certain he wasn't watching the sea race as the rest of us.

Great race and 'my man' won the title! Go Josef, go! And what a great track, I didn't realize they last raced there in 2004! I do not really agree with your Ericsson/Leclerc comparison JC, but I do get your point. There are several drivers in Indycar who are certainly F1 'worthy', no doubt.

Leigh Diffey and the entire NBC broadcast team were in fine form yesterday, a distinct turnabout from Mid-Ohio where I am certain they'd been pressured by the network to hype every sponsor of every team, as well as the official gasoline at every pitstop. Since then, there must have been some angry and effective discussions about the stupidity of this approach, a sentiment no doubt shared by many viewers. So, all's well that ends well and all were relaxed and thoroughly professional at Laguna Seca. My appraisal of Leigh Diffey may stem from having been spoiled by consummate professional Bob Varsha, who brilliantly conveyed what was happening without yelling, something now frowned upon by network cretins who view the audience as yokels who will sleep through commercial messages unless yelled at. I like Leigh Diffey personally, but he does toe the company line. That said, he's better than David Croft, whose network superiors are the ones asleep.

appears that someone whom I had always thought was very good and worthy of an F1 seat has finally signed a deal for a full race season in Indycars, I refer to Jack Harvey of course.

I am very excited about my countryman Rinus van Kalmthout, aka Rinus Veekay in the US, who has signed a fulltime contract with Ed Carpenter Racing for the 2020 Indycar season! Pro-Mazda champion in 2018 and runner up in the 2019 Indy Lights championship, Rinus is the next Dutch talent after Max Verstappen and Nyck de Vries (GP2 champion) in the top echelon of international motorsports. He did a test for Carpenter racing earlier this year at Portland and that went so well they offered him a position as second driver for 2020. But then they asked him to do another test at Mid-Ohio and he was spectacular at this difficult track. He did a 1.05,3 on blacks which would have put him second on the grid for the race earlier that year! A fulltime contract as their No. 1 driver was the result and expectations are really high. But he's a clever boy and with the support of his dad and Arie Luyendyk who acts as his mentor, Rinus could be a real sensation next year.

I've known his (nick)name for a couple of years and look forward to being able to see this brilliant talent, since recently neither Pro-Mazda or Indy Lights have been televised. Ed Carpenter has for some time driven only ovals and had a variety of road racers as second drivers. He's chosen a winner and it will be Rinus and the boss next year.
