Niki is a heck of a dude. There are a couple of video interviews with him, plus the 'breakfast with.....' article on MS archive. The more I read about the guy, the more impressed I am with his intelligence and strength of character. Amongst other things, he out negotiated Bernie E for his pay when at Brabham - how many can say they got the better of Bernie? I'm now on the look out for a copy of his 1984 book, 'To hell and back', that should be an epic read. Happy Birthday Niki, and best wishes for continued recovery from the lung transplant!

Thanks for the pictures René, Niki was one of the first drivers I’m conscious of really rooting for when I was a kid and he was in his second career phase at McLaren, a truly great driver and man.
Happy belated birthday to Niki!
And to ‘To Hell and Back’ is a great read Mikael, well worth tracking down a copy.

a true professional and an all round great guy, hope he is ok health-wise,
there is an interesting DVD out there, where Niki is 'more honest' about life, the accident and the career than any contemporary - really is one of the best DVD's I've seen, Also Wattie mentioned him yesterday at Race Retro, saying he was not quite the ice-cold chap we were led to believe, liked a drop of Scotch apparently

It was great to meet up again at Race Retro Chris, it gets better every year but a pity the Mercedes C11 wasn’t there 😢 One day definitely isn’t enough.

Yes, Chris and I met up there on the Saturday....great show, plenty to see. Chris was there for the whole weekend so got to see, and hear, a lot more than me. I did get a few photos but not too many. I’ll post up what I did get at some point.

It was great to meet up Jamie, there is so much to see that two days was probably insufficient, I got to hear Wattie who was good and Rosemary Smith whom I bought her book from, signed and autographed, a rather feisty lady in truth and not one to disagree with and I certainly didn't when she slagged off Clarkson, but I didn't see much of the action rally cars - as by the time I had listened to the interviews the rallying had stopped and wasn't on again for some hours - but yes took a number of photos some of which I will attempt to post, once I have revised again how I post these things and bought a wonderful book on Archie Scott Brown, a remarkable character and whose author I would recommend,
overall though I was disappointed with the car displays, no Sauber was a blow as was no Jag, the Mike Hawthorn stand I felt was poor and talking to one of the stall holders a marvellous chap whom I bough the Archie book from and who is heavily involved in the Prescott hill climb he was very disappointed this year, feeling that too many non motor racing stands were there now, the auto-jumble was a shadow of its previous self and isn't optimistic of next year. I missed the 'star car' a McLaren M29 is ok but not a star, an MP4 would have been a star- whereas 2 years ago we had the 'undiscovered' Lotus 33 and last year we had the likes of the Cosworth FWD F1 car but this year I thought the show missed something, apart from Mark Hughes of course, who was taking a well earned holiday and I would question my return next year but hopefully see you at Donington Jamie

You make some interesting observations Chris and, on reflection, I think I would agree that the hall of fame area (static display) was weaker than previous years. I thought that the other halls were better than previously though but that was maybe just because they were more to my specific taste. I certainly didn’t get round enough of it in the few hours I had but it was great to chew the fat as always 👍
Donington historics sounds like a plan 👍
