Chris, It may well be true and contradictory and not given much thought. The energy demanded by air travel is a tremendous source of carbon emissions. Now that we've gotten ourselves so deep into the industrial revolution, can the Luddites have been right all along?
I plan to sell earphones with the sounds of Matra and Ferrari V-12 engines when Formula E replaces Formula One

It has been quite widely reported (if one can believe what any of these media corporations peddle) that the biggest polluter of the planet is farming on factory levels, all through methane produced by the animals being farmed on an intensive scale.

That is a different kind of internal combustion and one I suspect is lower on the scale. My grandfather's dairy farm always smelled wonderful to me as a boy!

Carl, Dairy farms do have some intoxicating aromas that I am all too familiar with. I am reminded of my childhood and youth when I spent hours with my grandfather on the farm he managed every time I visit a local farmer to collect hay bales for my stock as he has a dairy farm. The smells that come from the milk parlour are just wonderful. From what i have seen on the news media on UK TV over the past few months (other of course than the so called election and leaving the EU) this question of factory farming levels damaging the planet with its methane excess leads to call for the eating of less meat. one of the pleasures of motor bike riding is that you are much more aware of the smells of the countryside, it has to be said that some smells are more pleasant than others, but yet another reason for riding a bike, brings one closer to nature
as someone who lived opposite an abattoir when young I realise that this has played a part in my being a non-meat eater - memories stirred chaps, gosh it was awful,

Never liked the idea of eating animals and that is why my farm animals are not for the table, mind you it doesn't stop the French always asking if they are. However it would have to be mentioned that many French would eat anything that drew breath if possible. I have to drive past an abattoir on my way to one of my local towns and i hate that part of the journey seeing the poor beasts in the fields belonging to the place knowing that what awaits them. Quite correct about riding a bike, I love it in the summer when so many aromas hit you, the smell of someone mowing their lawn or a road worker cutting the verges, or when one passes through a pine forest area.

yes after 30+ years of non-flesh eating I am still asked the same questions, and still get the occasional ' clever person' who points out I may have some leather on my car or bike to which I remind them I am not eating my car or bike, it is my choice not to eat flesh - a lifestyle choice and was I stranded on a desert island and the choice is eat flesh or perish, obviously I would eat flesh, but whilst I have the choice I make my choice, that normally shuts them up but why my not eating flesh should bother them is beyond me, however if someone is genuinely interested into the why's and wherefore's then my patience is evident.
it is a beautiful morning here with white crispy frost and sub-zero temperatures and I would just love to be able to go out on the bike this morning but prudence and a sense of I wish to remain warm prevails, but I am so looking forward to next year and being back out there and how those smells sharpen the senses, pine forests are one of my favourite aromas - ach

1980's Trabant end-of-line quality control. Hilarious! And unbelievable, really ... (Saw this posted by a contact on Linkedin.)
As written by the posting person on Youtube:"Was nicht passt wird passend gemacht" ("What doesn't fit will be made to fit"; yes, indeed! )

That is what you call quality control, always a perfect fit and finish!

Brings new meaning to the phrase "crumple zones" or has Trabant been ahead of the game all along?

An old Fiat commercial (somehow I believe in the story, how fantastic it may sound ...):

I remember that very effective commercial. Enzo Ferrari did at times drive a Fiat, partly for his own reasons and partly to please the company which owned Ferrari
