Yes, let's wait and see how this goes. Should be interesting but I have the feeling they could actually be a very good match. They're both way too smart to let this burst. And with Mattia Binotto running the team things look good for the Scuderia. It's time to give Mercedes a good spanking! Mikael, thanks for sharing that piece. Rene, I don't agree with the 'wait and see' approach. Too boring. Best to make predictions based on your own observations and thoughts and then laugh at yourself as those predictions fall flat. So, what I think is that it will be quite close, but that Vettel will prevail and Leclerc at the end of the season will know that he will have been vanquished by a Demon driver the likes of which he has never been matched with before. Leclerc, in effect, will be spanked. I have already given my prediction on Vettel/Leclerc. I too think Vettel will prevail in 2019 but Leclerc will not be spanked. On the contrary, he will establish himself as a future world champion with several wins. It will be close between them but Seb will see his dream, becoming champion in the red car, come true.

Will Kubica handle Russell? I hope Robert does well but I don’t believe it will happen. His comeback is great but it will only last one season. I hope I am wrong but that’s how I see it.

I see Mick Schumacher is edging toward a Ferrari junior role. I declare him to be the Next Lance Stroll.

... but I always found it interesting/curious how many with an absolute stellar junior-category career then suddenly stalled when they finally reached F1, while others who, say, just barely made it to F1 then blossomed at that level and became stars.
Earlier (on the Motorsport Magazine web) I had a discussion with Lucio about the Karting World Champions. It’s a strange fact that most of them kind of stalled and never made it to F1, in spite of the fact that most F1 drivers “go through” that category.
And among all the Karting World Champions (since 1964) who actually made it to F1 (Riccardo Patrese, Jan Magnussen, Jarno Trulli, Vitantonio Liuzzi, Giedo van der Garde, Max Verstappen, Lando Norris), just two or three of them can be said to have been really successful (in F1) (Patrese, Verstappen, and maybe Trulli). Lando Norris’s exam is coming up this year …
So Mick Schumacher might blossom at the F1 level (like his father did, in a way).

Hilarious new banner for this section René. In the Uk they would call you a real wag, but maybe I am misinterpreting its meaning . Do you think the goody bag contains a secret new MGUK for Honda?

Seeing the banner photo, I came to think of a famous photo from Suzuka 1989. If you look at the spectators, at the row of sleeping persons in the first row, just behind the fence, you will see that they have all been awoken by the roar from behind - except for one, who remains in deep sleep; and thus, a historic moment passed by, right in front of him, but outside of his consciousness. And I'm sure the tickets at that spot are among the more pricey ones :-) Zannen deshita ... (= What a shame ...)

Yes, money and connections can bring you a long way but Mick has shown real potential and I don't believe he would want to compete in F1 just to be there. Conclusion: if he reaches F1 he will win.

JC, you may interpret the banner image any way you want! Possible about the secret MGUK in the bag. Unfortunately it never reached the factory because he fell asleep...

I have seen it before, people sleeping during the race. I will never understand that to be honest, certainly not during a Grand Prix! An endurance race is another matter but paying serious money to witness an F1 race and then falling asleep is rather daft.

I agree, René. It might have been an over-worked, worn-down "salary-man", and the efforts necessary to reach the track are also considerable and tiresome. But the race itself, the climax, is just some two hours. If you miss that then everything is lost: the money, the time, ..., everything.

That was an excellent observation Mikael. I can understand exactly what you mean René, however sometimes sleep overcomes people in the strangest of places or situations. Just look at Kimi or Nelson Piquet, they would fall asleep in the pit garage during testing sessions. I remember once seeing Nelson fast asleep in his Brabham during tyre testing at Silverstone. Further to that I would have to say that it would not be difficult for me to fall asleep at a race meeting in current times' sometimes it is hard to stay awake while watching on TV .

ah there was nothing better than an F1 race to cure insomnia last year, irony is that this year with so many more opportunities to make a difference we can't watch it live - mind you is this a blessing or a curse?

I wonder if the bag contains brushes and green touch-up paint.

Officially confirmed now: Mick Schumacher joins Ferrari's young driver Academy. I think it's wonderful! Michael's son is a very likeable and talented young man and I believe he will do very well. Surely not another Lance, Bill! Go Mick, go!
