The front wing of the new Alfa is the most intriguing part. Completely different layout to all the other concepts so far. And the word is Ferrari is making use of 3D printed components in their new car... fascinating stuff.

money = power doesn't it? look at the PD and how he mangled so many lives in pursuit of the loot, but you do have to question what BAT and P Morris are doing, incidentally I do wonder if these companies manufacturer the vape stuff or whatever it is called I do like the colours of the Alfa, but then I am biased, incidentally wouldn't it be fun if the Alfa actually beat the Ferrari - sorry Ferrari fans but, does anyone think the rule changes imposed this year - by consensus that is- will make any difference to the actual racing? Chris, Well, yes, in a less brutal way, money's power has the same effect as bludgeons. Do you mean Bernie Ecclestone when you refer to PD? I would love to see manufacturers return to more traditional colors. There were sports car races at one time in which Ferrari, Alfa-Romeo and Maserati were all gorgeous shades of red and mistaken by very few people in the stands. The sounds alone would inform at a distance. I think imposition is more accurate and that Mercedes and Ferrari, having bigger bludgeons and budgets, will continue to dominate, although I hope I'm wrong. I'd love for both Renault drivers to have some wins. Cheers, Carl

yes Carl - BE = PD as in Dallas-
It would be nice to see that beautiful scarlet and reds appear but sponsors talk
That is interesting and quite an admission Mikael, I was thinking when I first read your piece that - great - hopefully Renault have stolen a march over the others, but then to admit that they are basically faking seems a bit, pointless I thought but there again their has always been a sense of intrigue and part of the F1 fabric, so maybe it's part of the show to try and delude us further.

2019 Ferrari in Matt Red colour scheme, Jeez, as i mentions earlier matt is the new gloss. So the F1 arms race is now replicating military practice, not to my taste, but I bet there are many who actually like it, just as the "toilet seat".

There are more teams who's presentation car was just a mock-up. They needed the extra week(s) to finish the actual car. But others like Mercedes, Red Bull and Alfa already did their first running with the new car so they are obviously a step ahead having done their initial set-up and systems check.

Good grief man it looks as though it has been coated in Letra Film! You mean car-wrapping! René in the early days of your career did you ever come across Letraset, we used it a lot in Graphic Design in the 1970/80's and one could get large sheets of various solid colours which one could scalpel into shapes etc; it had the same finish as these cars in its natural state. I do get where you are coming from with wrapping however, they say that wrap is actually lighter than paint, although I do not think that is the idea behind the matt finish which is more to do with the air flow and vortex effect.

Yes of course, Letraset is a well known name to me. My professional education was in the 80s and at the time everything was still made by hand. I had a drawing table with rulers, worked with Letraset sheets (solid colours and of course different font type sheets) and all kind of pencils, Rotring pens, markers and airbrush. And then came the Mac Plus... a 12" black & white screen with Macdraw as software. A magic box. As for the weight, it appears you're right. They went for the matt finish because it's lighter!
