To continue with the theme introduced by Jamie last year; what are your ‘racing’ plans for 2019? Race meetings you plan to visit or exhibitions you want to see?
Here is my list so far:
1. Interclassics Maastricht car show. The theme this year is Lancia so that should be good! 2. WEC Spa 6 hours 3. Spa Classic 4. Zolder Historic Grand Prix 5. Spa Italia 6. Belgian F1 Grand Prix, Spa Francorchamps 7. Italian F1 Grand Prix, Monza
This list can still change but probably not too much. The Italian Grand Prix visit is still provisional but I am 80% sure we’ll go. Would also like to go to the Goodwood FOS again but timing and finances might get in the way...
I would love to hear the plans of the other RRT members.

that sounds awesome Rene, I must check out the Spa classic and I would love to go to the Italian GP - brilliant
I haven't got my 'act together' just yet but I am looking provisionally at the following:
1. Race Retro - 2. Donington Historics [hopefully not hysterics] 3. BSB Silverstone 4. GT Endurance Silverstone 5. BSB Donington 6. WSB Donington 7. Silverstone Classic 8. Croft Retro 9. MotoGP Silverstone 10. WEC Silverstone 11. Donington F3 and GT
I may well go to Knockhill for the BSB round and I've never been to Cadwell Park, but that is the general gist, I do quite fancy a meeting at Brands as well, especially the DTM round, but it is such a horrid journey I will think about that one, the Silverstone ones are very provisional but I will go to the WEC I reckon, I just struggle with the place, so provisionally the above, no F1 though, and that doesn't feel right, I would like to go but...oh and of course most of the summer will be consumed by firstly the Ashes, a ticket I have for the 4th Test at Headingley, hee hee, and of course the Rugby world cup - come on Ecosse

Rene and Chris, I envy your relatively close proximity to so many great venues. I can fairly easily drive to Laguna Seca and Willow Springs, each about 175 miles, and Sears Point (Sonoma Raceway) is further at almost 300 miles. All are great road courses, but none as awesome as Spa, Monza or Donington. Here on the California central coast, most nearby tracks are small ovals of one sort or another. If Riverside was still there, I would never have left Los Angeles. Even though I've been to many great races and have wonderful memories, a first class plane ticket to Milan in early September would cheer me to no end.
Enjoy!
Cheers, Carl

Rene, If you go to Monza for the Grand Prix, where would you sit? I seem to remember some great pictures you took of Ayrton Senna at the Curva Parabolica.
Forza a Ferrari nel 2019! -Carl

Carl, nothing decided yet. I was indeed inside the Parabolica a few times and have been at many other spots around Monza. Such a great race track. Inside the second Lesmo was a great place to watch and I climbed the banking once during qualifying to watch the cars on the Serraglio straight (from Lesmo to Ascari) which was fantastic, almost frightening because of the echoing noise. Then a policeman summoned me to come down but he did it with a smile. I guess he knew it was a great place to watch. I have been to Monza many times but my last visit was in 2003 so that's quite a while back. Max's father was still driving! I hope the atmosphere hasn't changed too much. By the way, Monza is quite a trip. Almost 900 km (560 miles) from our place to Monza!

You should go to the WEC race at Silverstone, for sure some good racing and everything is very accessible. And Silverstone isn't all bad, still some great places to watch.

Rene, Your climb onto the banking was inspired and magical and you were treated with the courtesy of one devout race fan to another. Monza is quite a distance (I measured earlier from Eindhoven) but the modern and extensive European train system offers a nice alternative to a very long day's drive and the risk of your brother-in-law facing arrest for blinding oncoming motorists with his roof-mounted rally lights. Cheers, Carl

Enviable programs, René and Chris :-)
As for me, I will go to Suzuka again this year (11-12-13 October), for the F1 GP, that is certain. I'd also like to see a MotoGP once - I have never seen one; but the Japanese MotoGP takes place 18-19-20 October, so it might be a bit "over the edge" to go two weekends in a row ... A shame the dates are so close, as the MotoGP takes place at Motegi, which is quite close to where we live (yet I wont change the F1GP for it ...).
Recently I have also been thinking a bit about motocross again ... (I haven't been anywhere near a motocross circuit since 1983.) Unfortunately (and strangely) there is no motocross GP in Japan in '19 (yet there are none less than two GP's in Indonesia, and three in Italy!) But I might go out and watch a round of the Japanese championships somewhere - it's something I will check. The level might be quite high. (In this relation, the story of Akira Watanabe is interesting. Watanabe became a factory rider (in 125cc) for Suzuki, for the 1978 season. Suzuki wanted Watanabe to compete in Japan, for the Japanese championship, but Watanabe really had set his mind on the World Championship series. Finally Suzuki accepted - and Watanabe duly went on to take the 125cc World title that year. It's a long time ago, of course; yet I have the feeling that the level here in Japan still is high.)
