This is a project I am currently working on. I am using a resin body shell made by Pre-Wing. The chassis and running gear is by Policar/Shapeways. I am going to build Jacky Ickx's Austrian Grand Prix winning car. The body shell is nice but it could do with some adjustments and additional detail. I am just halfway with the project but I thought it was nice to share it at this stage. I hope I can finish it within a few weeks (a bit optimistic maybe ).

A marvellous subject to choose for that car René; Jaques Bernard in his very pomp. One of the best looking Ferrari GP cars of all time and that "flat 12" was one of the best engine sounds known to mankind.
Back in the early 1970's i built the Tamiya 1.12th scale kit as Clay's Monza winning version, even made my own vac form screen that was different to the kit version.
I really look forward to seeing your progress with this one.

René,
Two splendid photos for you from Watkins Glen in 1970. Note the cut down screen on Regga's car in comparison with the "bubble screen" on Jacky's car. Andretti ran with a similar cut down screen when he drove the 312B in 1971.

Those are great pictures, thanks! Yes, the cars differed from race to race. I intend to build the Zeltweg version that also had the 'bubble screen' on Ickx's car. Also the rear wing end plates changed regularly from rounded to more straight.

JC, I made some progress on the 312B last weekend. Mainly suspension and exhaust detail and also the wings are now (almost) ready. The chassis and gearing is made by Policar. This brand was revived a few years ago by a couple of enthusiast and with support of Slot.it. They have a beautiful range of classic F1 cars (Lotus 72, March 701 and soon to be released a Ferrari 312 B2) and also the Ferrari's 312PB and F40. For the F1 cars they engineered a new chassis and gearing to make this as narrow and low as possible with optimum performance. They did a great job on this and now also sell the chassis and all running gear parts separately for model builders. Here is the chassis with motor and gears. Fantastic quality and so smooth. The white front part is a 3D printed adjustable part by Shapeways. And a few pictures of where I am now with the model. Still some work to do on the cockpit (the screen and mirrors) and the driver. The rear wing sits too flat here but it is positioned only provisional. I hope I don't saturate you with my modelling!

René,
You will no more saturate me with you modelling posts than I will with my film clips and other oddities!
fantastic work so far on the Ferrari 312B. I am familiar with the Polistil models and the unique drive train that enables modellers to make a more realistic gearbox impression on period F1 cars in particular. I have been tempted to buy the Jochen Rindt Lotus 72 and the Amon March 701, but so far have refrained. The driver figure in the Amon March does look poor in comparison with the model itself.
What do you think of the Immense Miniatures driver figures and heads; from my perspective they are really nice work. Also what do you think of the quality of the Pre-Wing model kits. the Ferrari looks good but you are obviously putting a lot of your own work into the thing to make it of a higher quality.

JC, the March model is very nice in the STP livery and the detail level is high but you are right about the driver figure. But the Immense Miniatures figures are wonderful, some of the heads/faces look amazing. I have a few waiting to be used for another project I am working on (well, actually need to restart). If you look at the first picture in this post you can see the John Surtees Ferrari 158 in the background and I also have Bandini's 1512 halfway build. The IM figures will be great for these cars.
This is actually the first Pre-Wing kit I am building. Not bad but not as good as George Turner Models. And I really wanted to build a 312B. The only other option was a Betta-Classic shell but compared to this the Pre-Wing is really better. All the extra detail I make is of course not necessary, some other builders keep it more basic but I like this part and it adds a lot to the looks.

Keep adding the detail my friend, for one can never include enough. Also it makes the model so personal to the builder and that is what i like more than anything.
George Turner's kits are very good indeed from what I have seen, he has a wonderful eye which is equally important as scale dimension.

This is looking so good Rene. Looking forward to the end result and like Charles said don't forgo the detail.

This is looking so good Rene. Looking forward to the end result and like Charles said don't forgo the detail. Thanks Rob, much appreciated. The more detail, the better it looks but this is a slot car so there is a limit. It needs to be able to withstand a crash! Looking forward to one of your magnificent scale models in this section Rob!

Lovely bit of work René and it goes very well with the Jochen Rindt Lotus 72, you just need the March 701's to go with them . As a matter of interest what tyres and wheels are you using on this model? You mention that the body is a little high, do you mean that it is too deep from the bottom of the chassis to the top of the cockpit surround? Great job none the less, which really looks the part. JC
