I have just finished watching the first of two hour long programs from last weekends Classic TT Races, aired by the UK ITV4 channel. Somewhat understated in presentation this year without the normal anchor man but with Steve Parrish doing the job with real feeling; alongside him the redoubtable Steve Plater and the most pleasant Amy Williams of Winter Olympic fame.
It must be said that they formed a far more appealing team that that at the TT Races in June, Amy being vastly better than Jodie Kidd, not stilted and genuinely showing enthusiasm for the subject, pleasant on the eye also.
Great to see John McGuiness back in action after his awful injuries sustained two years ago, and to cap it off a great win for the "old boy" on the Paton "twin" in the Senior race. He also did a very emotional demo run on the very Ducati that the great Mike Hailwood rode to victory in the amazing comeback of 1978, 40 years ago.
Also fantastic to see Bruce Ansty back on the Island and doing a demo ride on the Honda RCV, Bruce had just completed his first course of chemotherapy and seemed upbeat with lots of smiles, of course minus hair. He aims to be back racing next year and is setting his stall out for a TT win at the ripe old age of 50 years. Wonderful to see him around and wishing him all the very best of course; great guy and brilliant rider.
Tomorrow evening will see the second episode which features the Classic Superbike event, should be good.

merci John hadn't picked up that this was on last night, going through the usual agony of Andy Murray playing, but in view of that conclusion I may well be watching this tonight, I have a friend from the Triumph who goes every year and it is definitely one I want to visit

Chris,
It seems like a brilliant event to attend, a bit like a laid back Goodwood Festival and at present without all the hype. Not so many Road Racing stars riding this year unfortunately.
One thing that strikes me is the fact that these classic bikes lap pretty quick, John McG' averaged 113mph on the 500cc Paton twin which to me is impressive; do we really need these super bikes which are getting faster and faster every year?
Hope you get to watch tonight, as it is well worth seeing, the presentation team are very good, just missing James Whitham to make it perfect.
John

John - I have the Steve McQueen programme on but cannot for the life of me get away with the presenter,
I am re-arranging my evening to watch the TT and may suggest to a few folk a trip for the classic in the next few years

Great viewing tonight with the Classic TT but I would have preferred to have had Parrish in the commentary with Steve Plater, Dave Moore doesn't do it for me. Hope you enjoy it yourself. John
