I cannot believe this, but this weekend was the Rally of Wales, a round of the WRC!! In the past, and some years back I may add, this for me was the biggest motor sporting event of the year along with the British F1 Grand Prix. I hardly missed a year from 1971 until mid 1990's; setting off into cold, often very wet, dark forests in Wales, The Forest of Dean or the Lake District.
It had a huge following, none more so than the special "spectator" stages in Stately Homes or large parks on a Sunday (which would have been the equivalent of today), the rally then began in earnest the following Monday when the real enthusiasts mapped out the UK to see the real action. Most club rallies back then were longer and more demanding that what we have now, how sad.
Anyway congratulations to young Elfyn Evans for winning, and it being it his first WRC victory, I bet his dad is well pleased especially as it is at home in Wales.
