One of the great race series because of the drivers involved, arguably the best outside of Formula One and Can-Am, the Tasman Series satisfied the intense interest in motor racing in Australia and New Zealand for many years.
This is a well done and very cool film about the Longford event in 1964.

Wonderful video Carl! I love the atmosphere and there are some gorgeous cars to be seen. Great stuff! Rene, I found it on the great website you recommended, Primotipo, a treasure trove of intelligent nostalgia and suitable "Who is he" photos. Besides the talented locals, Frank Gardner, Bib Stillwell and Frank Matich, and the many Formula One greats, the winner of the motorcycle event, Kel Carruthers, described as "a Sydney mechanic", went on to Isle of Man and 250cc World Championships. And dominant most years, as everywhere else, Jim Clark

the Tasman series from early 60's to 68 was brilliant, the 68 series proving such a wonderful series, and from what I understand the European drivers loved the series, and certainly all the photos i have seen seems to evidence that - a great reminder Carl, cheers

The 1960's Tasman Series was quite unique and a wonderful championship. The interesting fact was that they kept the old 2.5 litre formula and it still attracted great interest from the European teams. It meant that the cars were particularly interesting in that they were quite often different from the the F1 cars of the day, usually chassis' modified to accommodate the old 2.5 litre Coventry Climax 4 cylinder engine.
Then of course they became more contemporary with the sleeved down Cosworth DFV and the use of the Dino 246 V6 in that beautiful little Ferrari. Jack Brabham would often use the series to test and develop his new cars, and Repco motors. Also it was open to the 1600cc F2 cars in the mid and late sixties, Piers Courage impressively restarting his career in a McLaren M4A Cosworth FVA run by Frank Williams.
There are some great films of those days on YouTube and all are well worth seeking out.
Thank you Carl for attaching the above it is a fabulous film.

totally with you JC, the 1968 series was perhaps the best i have seen, there are entire races and the circuits are interesting if scary, and watching Chris Amon really bring the fight to Jimmy is great, the strengths of each car clearly shown, brilliant, as some of teh races are in colour and that just looks wonderful
