Funnily enough the fronts look Ok to me from the pictures Mikael has posted, however the rears look plain weird.
It would be good to see many different tyre constructors competing with one another.

Weren't rear tyres more massive in the past (late 1970s), much wider and with higher sidewalls than the fronts, with wheels wide enough to fully encompass their size? They just looked right for the job.

And I agree with your conclusion; F1 needs a tyre war! Unfortunately Michelin does not want to make F1 balloon style tyres anymore. Would love to see Michelin and Ferrari team up again.
Regarding the 18'' wheels with low-profile tyres that were tested a couple of years ago, I agree that it initially looked a bit odd, but I think this "oddness" is soon forgotten. Personally I think it's the way to go and that it was pity the step wasn't taken in connection with the big formula-overhaul for 2017.
I agree that the 18 inch wheels would look better and the tyre design might have more relevance to something the manufacturers can apply to the tyres they produce for the road, but if the smaller teams are bending from the costs of developing a new chassis for the 2017 big wheel regulations, then another to accommodate the halo, and another for next years wide front wing, then the complete redevelopment of a car for low profile tyres and suspension that actually has to absorb bumps is going to wipe out 7/10ths of the grid.

I was joking on another forum that Ver-crash-en is aiming to hit every car on the grid this season. He's keeping on track with a sneaky tag on Stroll this weekend, good skills. Bringing his tally to, Himself (Australia – driver induced collision), Hamilton (China), Vettel (Bahrain), Ricciardo (Baku), Stroll (Barcelona). Who will he nail in Monaco? ??

I find it interesting that larger wheels (than 13") have been used in the past (excluding here the "very distant past", say 1950-1965). For example, Ferrari used 14" wheels (for both front and rear) in the period '66-'68. Then, in 1969 they went on to use 13" front and 15" rear. In the mid-70's (probably in 1974) they started using 13" for both front and rear. These dimensions have, apparently, stayed on ever since then. P.S. I found these data at www.f1technical.net, where there is a database with data for "any GP car since 1950". Actually, the database is not complete, but data for the Ferrari's (since 1950) are fairly complete.

Jim, shall we start a sweepstake? how about it Rene? I like the idea, Winner, first out, and who will Ver-crash-en hit this time (including the safety car)
