I just find this amazing and very inspiring. What a perseverance! "Billy Monger claimed a podium finish on his return to competitive action in the first race of the BRDC Formula 3 Championship season opener at Oulton Park on Saturday. It was the first time the 18-year-old had raced competitively since the accident in British Formula 4 at Donington Park last April that resulted in the amputation of both legs. Having qualified in fifth place, 0.548s behind the pole time, Carlin racer Monger capitalised on contact between Clement Novalak and Krish Mahadik, settling into third place." Source: Autosport.

It would be wonderful if he ultimately could reach the highest level - F1. Alan Stacey competed in F1 at the end of the 50's/dawn of the 60's with one leg and a hand-operated accelerator. And in MotoGP, Mick Doohan took all of his five 500cc World Championships with a hand-operated rear brake, after having damaged his one ankle beyond proper "repair". So why not both. In the present space shuttle technology-level of F1 cars, it's certainly possible.

What’s great about this story is that Billy isn’t letting what happened to him ruin his life. It would be easy to fall in to a pit of dispair and let it dominate your outlook but not Billy, what an amazing human being this lad is. More power to him.

Billy Monger won his first Euroformula Open F3 race in Pau last weekend! What an amazing achievement and what an inspiring young man he is. I just watched the 1 1/2 hour documentary 'Driven - The Billy Monger story'. If you have the chance to see it, do! It's an amazing story about perseverance, mental strength and love. Impressive. Here's a short resume of this doc.

I mentioned a while back that he was part of the C4 F1 Highlights team, only seem one episode and Billy was a pundit on that occasion and very impressive too. A remarkable young man.
