Tomorrow the first free practice session of the new Grand Prix season will start and after the Sunday race we'll have a better view on what to expect for the coming year.
So please, your race predictions gentlemen!

surprise surprise, Hamilton quickest -but on super softs, honestly why don't they just issue one 'type' of tyre and say 'get on with it' and sorry but am I supposed to be excited by a 3rd DRS zone? funny enough - i seem to be struggling with that

Oops, the halo obstructs on-board camera shots!
I mean.... really?
The most technological advanced sport in the world with the majority of its income coming from television rights. And no one has given this a thought?
"F1 sources acknowledge that the organisation has some work to do to hone its coverage, but the challenge is that it is limited to the camera positions that are mandated in the regulations.
The rules also states "Competitors must be notified of any changes to the camera or transponder installation instructions before 30 June of the previous season."
This ensures that there can be no changes to mounting positions within this season - and that any planned modifications for 2019 will have to be agreed and confirmed by that date." Source: Autosport
Are these people brain dead?

Yes they are René.
I am completely done with it now and have vowed not to watch any F1 this year, and afterwards until someone actually comes to their senses and sorts this farce out, I am not missing it already! I respect your desire to stay with it but somehow think that if you were 20 years older you would share my view.

Jeez René, that statement really shows how removed from reality these people are.......good god.
Anyway, F1 is back and I’m happy about that. Let’s see where they all are after qualifying but the Mercs look very quick don’t they. Been mad busy at work for the past couple of weeks so I’ve not had a chance to get too excited about the upcoming race (or post to this wonderful site much) but as of today that’s over so I’m looking forward to a motorsport fix this weekend without an upcoming deadline to worry about 😁

I have to admit that I have never been as frustrated before the start of a new season as I have now. I will stay with it (for now) but it is so sad to know that it could be so much better with a bit of common sense. Looking at our little group here I think it is fair to say that on average the 'younger' (ahem.. ) members are still more connected to the sport and not ready yet to give up. You know, this is my sport. Has been for 40 years. Can't imagine not following F1...

It's insane. But well, we're off with a new season. Maybe rain during qualy so could be fun. Let's hope for a good race!

Are these people brain dead? Yes. The infrastructure of Formula One is at a bizarre and unfathomably byzantine level that the most stupid historical bureaucracies could only dream of attaining. Ensuring that well-intended people simply could never reach reasonable consensus was part of the unflushed state of confusion in which Bernie flourished.

I can't help but feel so sad and yes, upset, remembering the years I used to get up at the crack of dawn or barely sleep with the excitement and anticipation of the start of an F1 season, the arguments and huffs it caused with girlfriends, how dare I wake them to the sound of motor racing, and that was just qualifying, now, I watch WSB qualifying with more excitement and that [no disrespect to WSB] is just so sad, i will try and look at the highlights on C4 but suspect this may not happen,
honestly - these people who make the rules, their salaries should be docked and they banned, maybe we'll go back to a half-hearted flag wave and how many first lap pile ups? and what did Todt say? he couldn't understand the fuss, cue rapid re-thing to Indy style protection?

The back room bureaucracy of F1 is nothing sort of breathtaking in its banality.....that’s a symptom of today’s society of course and that’s what makes me sad.
So, Hamilton’s lap was superb and the Merc looks great, Ferrari and RB behind and then a huge gap to best of the midfield (Haas). Feels like more of the same up front but I did enjoy the session so I hope the race is a bit tighter. Kimi did well, shame for Bottas and Danny R a penalty for something so inoculous at the first race of the season made me swear out loud 😡
Interesting little exchange between Hamilton and Vettel afterwards; Seb obviously puts the gap down to a qualifying engine mode but Lewis was having none of that, insisting that he used the same mode from Q2 through Q3......hmmmmm.

Not a bad qualifying and Ferrari had clearly not shown their hand yet until the final session. It looked all very close but somehow Lewis found an extra 6 tenth (!) out of nowhere in his last run. No power mode of course... Yeah right. Bad start for Bottas, that was his own mistake and could be very costly eventually (well, it is already financially ) I am not sure yet how the RB's can have an advantage starting on the super softs. But their clever engineers and a few hundred people in Milton Keynes think it will work so they will probably be right... Let's hope for a good race. Forza Ferrari!

well I sort of watched it, admittedly it had been a hectic morning and my first rideout on the little beastie, but embarrassingly I did fall asleep to the sound of - whatever they sound like - in Q1, but I did manage Q2,3 and the laddish talk seemed absent, why oh why can't Lee Mc doing the introducing?
Bottas seems to remind me of someone who has been told to improve in order to stay, but in doing so actually goes slower - maybe the Williams seat next year might fit a bit better?
I would be interested in the RB's decision, but what happened to Riccy does not bode well for this year and Kimi looked interested for a change
it is so difficult to be enthusiastic, I have written this last sentence 4 times so as not to so sound too negative, but it just feels like one car has all the toys and the others haven't. and they are just so ugly, and watching from the car camera was farcical - damm

Real heavenly halos have never blocked anyone's view, proving that those in Formula One are diabolical.
