John was the first to test the Jordan 191 in 1991, here still called 911 before someone made them change it...

Too late, John. He's gooone... I remember this race so well. Although a Ferrari fan, I was very much crossing my fingers for Jody. Great victory!

Lucio I think it was Porsche who made Jordan change the name. Something to do with Trademarks etc. Peugeot had done the same to Porsche back in the early 70s, if memory serves, when they brought the Porsche 914 out. I think Porsche were going to call it a 90? until "Peugeot tapped their trademark papers" to quote Jenks.

Originally named F150 in honour of the 150th birthday of the state Italy, it was Ford that protested because of their F150 truck and made Ferrari change the name (to 150° Italia). Ferrari never protested the 308 designation used by Peugeot by the way although Ferrari used it first. I guess they were quite sure no one would mistake a Peugeot for a Ferrari!

I remember this race so well. Although a Ferrari fan, I was very much crossing my fingers for Jody. Great victory! I still remember it vividly. That day, 22nd of May 1977, I was supposed to go to watch my hometown football club game - Sambenedettese-Como (2-0), Serie B championship - with my cousin and an uncle who came to visit us. However, as I realized Patrese was debuting in F1, he qualified brilliantly 15th when only 20 were admitted, I cancelled and stayed home to watch the race live on TV. The start is etched in my memory, with the camera located in the pits beside the first row showing poleman Watson with his rear wheels on the pedestrian crossing... Sorry, John.

Jamie I think you are right re the 911 and not the 914 where Peugeot got excited. Rene maybe ford protested the Ferrari 150 because they could see where F1 cars were going.

John Watson still makes the sharpest observations of any ex racer, it is a travesty that he is no longer used by the "mainstream" as an expert, he leaves Coultard et al so far behind they have been lapped twice!
