Ferrari 312B3 1974 - 1/32 scale slot car

Hi guys,

I want to show off one of my slot cars of which I am particularly proud. This is a so-called scratch build project that took me over a year to finalize. Of course not continues work but mainly spare hours in the evening or the weekends.

As a starting point I used an old body from Italian manufacturer Polistil. A bit toy like and slightly over scale but there was some good detailing on the side pods which I decided I could use.
For the experts in this field; the chassis is a standard Fly F1 chassis so no high end parts used here. Only some modifications for a good fit with the new bodywork. Performance wise this car is fine for the home track but not a club racer.

Here you can see the original Polistil bodywork and the Fly F1 chassis. Starting off with cutting the car in pieces and fitting to the chassis.







Now starts the real scratch building; making the new cockpit with high air box, the wings and a new nose section.









Now most of the shapes are looking good so time for the first layer of primer. Now you get a better idea how the car is going to look.





Creating the correct livery and sponsor decals is also part of the fun.



Making engine and exhaust details and spraying the car Ferrari red.





And then finally, after making the correct wheels and applying all the decals, the car is ready!

You should be justifiably proud René as that is a superb bit of craftsmanship, a stunning model.

I know all too well what goes into making something like that as i spent many years making models of racing cars (primarily), although I have not built one now for two decades. I stopped more or less at the same time as going to race meetings, and have never returned to either!

I often get the urge to begin, or finish a part built kit, but find it difficult as my close up vision isn't what it was and that is more than annoying.

I second Charles' post Rene, what a fantastic model!

Makes me want to build something myself......now when I've finished the full size toy in the garage I'll look into a Tamiya kit or similar. Maybe a Sauber Mercedes C11 or Jaguar XJR 14 ...........
