So for me the season starts this weekend with the Daytona 24 hours.....IMSA is definitely my favourite series presently so I’m really looking forward to this one.
The championship winning Cadillac is on pole but only just with the Penske Acura very close behind, Alonso only 13th but you can bet they’ll do ok in the race for pace.
I’ll be watching the free coverage on IMSA TV, I just wish one of the satalite channels covered the race here in the UK. Anyone else going to be watching?

I have quite a busy weekend planned but I will try to see as much as possible.
The Dutch have done very well with Renger on pole and Robin Frijns 6th. Curious how Alonso goes.
Looking forward to it!

Would like to watch it, is there a website/link where to? I watch it via the official IMSA app on my phone mirrored to my TV but you can also watch on a computer on the IMSA website. imsatv.imsa.com

Thank you, Jamie. Sometimes I have been able to catch and watch online races like Bathurst or Le Mans. Will follow Daytona over the weekend.

Yep, the IMSA app on the iPad has worked fine for me. You can also switch on-board cameras, very cool.

I always monitor the 24 Hours highlights and enjoy several hours of live broadcast. Fox Sports always has divided coverage between FS1 and FS2, the latter available only on a higher cost package of channels.
One aspect of any twice around the clock race are periods of stasis. If I were there in person, I'd move around and always find something of interest, but television coverage tends to repeat itself. The broadcasters should dare to be silent occasionally and allow the different great engines to speak for themselves.
One cool thing about Daytona is that the infield road course has changed very little over the years, so the current track is nearly identical to when Dan Gurney, in a Lotus 19, used the starter motor to cross the finish line and win the three hour 1962 Daytona Continental.

I understand that it is fifty years since Vic Elford won the Monte Carlo Rally and - a week later!! - Daytona.
Mein gott. What a feat.

Vic Elford and Carlos Reutemann were both outstanding talents and have the further distinction of being on the style podium. They looked like racing drivers were supposed to in the popular imagination. Kirk Douglas was the actor who comes closest. James Garner was a wuss.

From all I have read, Jim Garner was a very decent guy, he was the one who actually was capable to drive the cars at speed in the movie Grand Prix and remained a lifelong fan of the sport. There is a nice photo, which I can't find now, of him on the podium at Long Beach in 1976 with Clay Regazzoni. Here with Teddy Yip, presumably at Indy:

Have watched the 24 hours, must say that I struggled to appreciate it. I don't like the cars, I don't like the track.
I prefer much more watching racing on the mountain, Bathurst, in recent years: exciting track, competitive racing.

I prefer much more watching racing on the mountain, Bathurst, in recent years: exciting track, competitive racing. It wasn't a vintage race but I still enjoyed it. I have the opposing view in that I like the cars but Daytona is a little....Meh. Its the season opener though so Im always excited when it comes round. I'm hoping for some close racing this season and all the DPI's showed pace at times....Mazda / Joest have a little work to do though. The Bathurst 12 hours is next week and I shall be tuning in to that also, that's a great, great track and its generally a good race.

Forgot to add: Rockford is a legend! My mother had a crush on James Garner, judiciously waiting until my father was gone. His better show was in the late 1950s, a western called "Maverick" in which Garner was perfectly cast as Bret Maverick. I still remember the theme song! Attachment DeletedThe very likeable Garner essentially always played himself, as many actors do, but not the very best. He and Clint Eastwood were good friends as young actors in the 1950s before success came, first on television, then as movie stars, then back to television for Garner in the excellent Rockford Files, and for Clint Eastwood a descent into dementia. I always thought Rockford should finagle a better beach trailer and replace his awful gold Firebird with a 1970 Trans-Am. They were both wusses... Attachment Deleted
