Just to add to the Nino Vaccarella image; I attach a photo autographed by this marvellous driver, not in my possession unfortunately but a nice image.

Is that a 275 or 330p? René, I believe it to be a 275P2, but I could stand correction and see it as a 330P2. A beautiful looking race car as I found all those sports prototype Ferrari's to be in the 1960's. The photo itself is something that I would have dreamt about taking as it has everything location; atmosphere and of course the car & driver. Unfortunately for me I was around in the wrong era for such an event. As you mention a beautiful autograph written correctly by an educated man. JC

I found this great picture. You can just hear this one guy saying to the others "Bella macchina" when the Alfa roars by!

The attached photo is not from Targa Florio but from the similar (?) Mille Miglia - from the 1957, and last, version of that famous road race. It shows Alfonso de Portago with co-driver Edmund Nelson in a Ferrari 335 Sport. I downloaded it (some time ago) just because I thought it was a most beautiful and spectacular photo. (The spectators - and the expressions on their faces - are particularly interesting.) But shivers ran down my spine when it finally dawned to me that de Portago and Nelson both perished in that race, taking nine spectators with them. © Auto Motor und Sport

What a great picture, Mikael. Almost a socio-anthropological treatise on what the Mille Miglia represented at the time in Italy. On top of that, De Portago's action, who was pushing hard, the rear left wheel lifting off.
Just a great photo.

Sorry to hear that you missed it earlier Rob, unfortunately some threads get overwhelmed on a busy day. The photos and the Ferrari's are just stunning, that must have been some event to go to as a spectator, although Jenks did a fabulous job in writing about it.

© Auto Motor und Sport That is taken somewhere between Florence and Bologna, either the Futa or Raticosa pass on the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines, on its way back up to Brescia where they never arrived. Look at the participation of the people, they are all taken by the race, all dressed as if they were to go to the Sunday's mass. You can tell they are all fully knowledgeable about what is happening in front of them. Beautiful.

The pictures from both the Targa and the Mille Miglia so beautifully show what motor racing in Italy means. How important this sport historically is in this country. I know the passion is still there and Ferrari is really a big thing but I am not sure if it is still as big as it used to be.
Lucio, I am sure you have a better picture of that.
