A very good summary Rene. Not quite the result I was looking for I must admit but hats off to Oscar as he drove an excellent race and caught Charles napping a bit. Quite amazing how the undercut saw him shave five seconds off of Charles' lead. I was beginning to like Oscar earlier in the year but thought his move on Lando at Monza though clean etc was not correct on a team mate. I also was having a go at the Oscar fanboys who visit this site and keep slagging Lando off on other sites which is totally undeserved. Just balancing the books a bit. Oscar is a tough nut but he races fairly and cleanly and I will have to get used to him winning a lot. He really withstood the pressure well and deserved this win.
A good race and one we would never have dreamed of at the beginning of the season. Singapore could be a cracker.

All in all an excellent race. This is what we want to see, isn’t it. Yes, I was disappointed that Charles didn’t win but we saw a race. A real race. Yes, outstandingly good racing. The super-fast Baku City Circuit apparently also suits these super-fast cars really well.
Maybe what F1 really ought to do, is to - as far as possible - go back to the old-style Grand Prix Circuits, with super-long straights and smooth, fast curves, akin to the early versions of Monza and Spa-Francorchamps, where they would run "full throttle" almost all the time ...(?)
[Or, they should ultimately go back to smaller, nimble cars - it's one or the other, I'd say ...]

The final pass for the lead was outstanding: bold, ruthless and fair. As noted by René, Charles Leclerc should have been as bold in defense. As baseball great and ruthless base runner Leo Durocher always said, "Nice guys finish last"
The curtain would have fallen on the wonderful closeness of first through fourth, a fantastic final act, if anyone had perceived an advantage in pitting for new tyres.

OP has made two brilliant passes for the lead on probably the two fairest drivers in the sport and both have paid off. I wait to see what happens when he tries it on one of the less compromising drivers! I still prefer nice guys.

A bit of gossip to keep things going… According to several sites, Daniel Ricciardo drove his last Grand Prix in Baku. From Singapore onwards, he will be replaced by Liam Lawson for the rest of the season. And a ‘handshake agreement‘ has been made between Toto Wolff and Jos Verstappen regarding a move from Max to Mercedes for 2026…

Interesting indeed. Hope they are both true.
