In the meantime, Martin Brundle is strangely going with a conspiracy theory suggesting Max was only putting pressure on Red Bull: “I would hazard a guess that that was not as fast as Max could go.” “He knew he couldn’t beat Lando and dropping back a bit like that, it’s going to give the factory a hurry up, isn’t it? I’d be pretty sure of that.” Totally bonkers if you ask me. Being in the same broadcast booth with David Crofty could degrade anyone's rational thought process, but Brundle is steady and talks to a lot of people with whom he shares extensive knowledge. Max has never been shy about breaking rules as a driver. Would he do the same within his team? It's not hard to envision the entire Red Bull team as a nest of vipers.

Well, that was a Verstappen/RedBull style demonstration from Lando Norris and McLaren (except for the start). Impressive. And Ferrari was much stronger in the race than the practice and qualy sessions suggested so I actually enjoyed it. Strong race from both their drivers. Yes, I was very impressed by both Ferrari drivers!
I sometimes wonder if the team would benefit by moving further from the legend and legacy of Enzo Ferrari. Is the Scuderia ever too patient with incompetence in high places because of sentimental attachments?

A Modest Proposal
Two dry tyre compounds. One intermediate. One wet. Each Grand Prix divided in two or three heats totalling 200- 250 miles. Heats are 30 minutes apart and the winner is decided on aggregate time (it's been done) Only one pitstop allowed during each heat. A second disqualifies... A jolly good idea Carl, one that I feel would go down well with the more mature followers, I would add a little proviso and take it from Indycars again and only allow one person per tyre, using the same rules as Indycars and that would be far more interesting -

An excellent qualifying and a calm, dominant race from Lando, brilliant weekend for him. He put his much vaunted Aussie teammate in the shade a bit, which resulted in a deafening silence from the Piastre brigade on other forums. Funny, Piastre also got beaten off the start line and spent time behind Russell, similar to Lando in Belgium, but now it seems to be a McLaren problem and not a Lando problem. Funny how one-eyed some people can be.

Noteworthy events normally spotlight the greatest attraction or most valuable player, sometimes the playwright, sometimes the star actor. Formula One has already decided that countries are secondary to the primary commercial sponsor of each race. Why not take the next step? F1 and Pirelli should stop the pretense and become the Pirelli World Championship, with additional space on the podium for team engineers who determine driving strategy and a small, remote podium for crew members who change tyres (never mind the wheels-what have they paid?)
Firestone would gladly do the same, but Penske is richer than Croesus and doesn't need the money.
