Pedro. PS: One can only laughs when he hears that Perez is the most successful Mexican driver because has a podium finish more than Pedro. A world of corporate nonsense.

Beautiful photo. It's really just a kid, isn't he? Perez is a good driver but of course not on the same level as the Rodriguez boys. How would Sergio handle a 917?

that is a lovely photo, I always liked Pedro and another sad loss, but the number of times I have watched 1970 Brands a wonderful exhibition, I haven't read the book on the brothers as I must admit i struggled with Ricardo but Pedro and Jo with Brian were such a competitive group, great days

It illustrates how the world is sinking to the Lowest Common Denominator becoming the standard. Since when does 8 podiums trump 2 Grand Prix wins? I can't laugh at that. I can only get angry at the bullshit.

so true Rob, i doubt if Perez's name will ever appear on the top step, whilst Pedro's name will be forever remembered and revered

Perez could never return drives like Pedro as long as he has a hole in his backside, especially in the Porsche 917. This constant bandying about of meaningless statistics that have no relevance to the past is, as you say Rob, not a laughing matter.
Yet more puerile nonsense from these media idiots.

What a great photo René of the extremely versatile and gifted (not only in a race car) Phil Hill. His Grand Prix career petered out after two awful seasons at ATS and Cooper, both cars which were total crap; however his drives in the Chaparral 2E in Can Am and then alongside the brilliant Mike Spence in the Chaparral 2F proved his real worth.
Great driver and man.

Great driver and man. Yes it is a great photo, I like it very much. He was a great driver and an interesting man and with a Formula 1 World Championship and a Le Mans victory to his name there is no denying his talent. And he wasn't the first nor the last champion who's career in F1 ended in minor. In the Chaparral he was great though!

Phil Hill won three times at both LeMans and Sebring. Weary of Ferrari politics, he struggled in substandard teams before bidding adieu to Formula One for more pleasant and competitive company. As both you and John Charles noted, he was fast until retirement whereas I intend to slow down a bit. Good luck over this coming busy weekend!
Cheers, Carl

Carl, I have done him short by implying he won Le Mans only once and by not even mentioning Sebring! Mea culpa! He was a fantastic racer and one of the great Ferrari drivers.

It is conspicuous how F1 drivers of that era (1950's, 1960's) often looked older than their age. (I believe JC mentioned this also in a comment on the Motor Sport Magazine blog some time ago.) It might have been due to the psychological strain rather than due to the physical strain. Phil Hill is just 32 in this photo. Crow's feet like that at 32 ... it's early.
As another example, I think that also Dan Gurney, in his active years, looked older than his age. (Yet the artist of the Bell advertisement below may have overdone/over-captured this a bit ...) Later it kind of reversed; and in his later years he looked much more youthful than his birth certificate would suggest.

Both seem to have the 1000 yard stare also seen in combat veterans. I have noticed it so much in the modern drivers.
