I have been trying to research wheel & tyre weights from bygone eras, not much available but there are some places which give road car measures. It would appear that the combined weight of previous generations of cars were quite a bit lighter than current, in fact last years cars wheels & tyres were also much lighter. It was commented over the weekend that the teams do not practice so much with these current things as they are so heavy, that basically tells you all you need to know.
Just to remind everyone that one of the most overriding parameters in race car design was to make the vehicle as light as possible.
