I am glad I'm not the only one feeling a bit disappointed with yesterday's race. I expected more. Yes, the venue is great and hopefully it will stay on the calendar. And the cars did look spectacularly fast. But something was missing. Don't know. Maybe disappointed to see how far off McLaren and Ferrari still are. And the Dutch commentary clowns are hard to digest, bunch of infantile idiots. It's not only Croft, believe me. Next. When the circus is dull, send in the clowns. Someone should write a song...
Best idea of the weekend!

I also felt a sense of discomfit after the race which I couldn't quite put my finger on. I thought it was because SLH had won yet again but it wasn't that. Maybe it was the gap between the first two and McLaren and Ferrari or maybe it was the ease with which SLH seemed to win, though if you listen to him, Pete Windsor or Mark Hughes it was terribly difficult for him to do so. I just don't know. I do think however that Mercedes have fixed the weakness in their car and things may be easier for them again. I sincerely hope not.
I was very disappointed with MV's remark about hoping to never go back to Portimao because there was no grip and he didn't enjoy it. Yikes these guys are spoilt. Can't imagine great champions like J-M Fangio, Stirling Moss, Jim Clark, Jackie Stewart, Gilles Villeneuve, Niki Lauda, Aryton Senna et al making a complaint like that. They would probably welcome it because their skill would put them at an advantage in such a situation.
I feel for Valteri, he looked so good after qualifying only for it to disappear during the race for the third time in a row. Would Mercedes prefer to have an international superstar driver win a record breaking eighth title or some quiet Finn, who will be in another team next year, take the honours?
One good thing about the last three races is the number of mistakes being made by the two "best" drivers on the grid. Max has made a mistake in all three races and lost two possible victories doing so. SLH made the biggest mistake of all but somehow managed to lose nothing from it as he finished as high as he was going to in that race anyway. It's amazing what real pressure can do to the best driver in the world.
I was very impressed with Mick Schumacher's drive. He lost two opportunities to pass Latiffe through having to give way to the leader but still managed it. Don't know what his teammate was doing in the sister car.
Like you Charles, I was baffled at Lance Stroll getting the updates on the car and not SV. So glad SV beat him in qualifying and the race with the inferior package.

I was going to mention something similar to you Rob regarding Hamilton's "difficult" win, and the excellent drive by young Mick Schumacher but thought I had ranted long enough so called it quits.
I did think that Mick drove very well, he was neat and tidy and to be challenging and beating a Williams in the Haas was a very good performance.
To me it irked somewhat when Lewis Hamilton stated how hard it was and his radio conversations that the tyres were shot while he was still banging in fast laps. I might live in the past but he should take a leaf out of Jim Clark's book and just get on with it. At Spa in 1965 Jim won in the pouring rain on the most challenging track (along with the full Nurburgring) and all the while holding the darn car in gear as it kept jumping out of gear, one handed on that track in a downpour and after the race not one complaint as he did not wish to upset his team owner Colin Chapman, he just made a passing comment to one of his mechanics. That is a true champion.
According to Peter Windsor the Honda power unit is probably the best right now well it did not look like that on Sunday, good yes but not more powerful that the Mercedes Benz. Also Mark Hughes would have us believe that Ferrari should have won the championship in 2019 and if I am not mistaken he said the same in 2018, MB and Lewis won because of the driver. Maybe they should, maybe not we do not know.
A simple question here is this. How good is Valterri Bottas in real terms? He can be fast but many times he is all at sea and has no idea why he is off the pace of his team mate. So is Valterri the second best driver in F1 currently? In my opinion and the facts would support that he is not, so to accurately assess Lewis Hamilton we need someone else in the second MB who is on a higher level.
So poor Max did not like Portimao as there was no grip; Oh! dear. Bet he would have had a different opinion if he had won the race. Don't hear him complaining about the rain when he has done one of his "outstanding" wet weather drives.
