Max in Ginther's Honda RA272. How small Richie must have been! Below is a photo of Richie Ginther with Dan Gurney (who was 193 cm tall, I've "Googled"). So, estimated from the photo, Ginther might have been around 165 cm (?) By the way, Max Verstappen is 180 cm tall, I've seen; not a smallish guy in any way. Yes, it certainly looked a good deal better with Ginther and Bucknum in those small Hondas! Takuma Sato (164 cm tall) fits well in #12 too.

Thanks Mikael. Yes, Ginther was quite short and so is Sato. Max is clearly too tall for this car but still great they let him drive it!

Hi JC You are referring I think, to Ian McArdell, who was killed the year i started racing FF1600. If you have any pictures of me, i was in a black Lola T644E usually number 2, 12 or 72, around '93-'96, and i must admit, not terribly competitive. '93-'94 i had a red/white helmet and '96 it was blue/white. I was racing again '98-'00 but in the Everyman series by then and i didn't return to Combe until the 2010s. Many thanks Joe, I am mortified that I could not remember fully Ian McArdell's name, normally I am pretty good at such things and I feel disrespectful of him as I saw Ian race many times at Castle Combe. I will have to check my extensive negative files to see if i have any pictures of you in your Lola, 1994 was probably my last year going to races so it would have to be '93. The problem is that having moved to France and to two different locations over the past 12 years much of my things are still stored away in boxes, so i may have to do some digging. I do not think I would have seen any of the chicanes at the Combe in my time, although i did see a film recently of Guy Martin riding a historic Honda grand prix motorcycle there which did feature the chicanes. Hi JC
Looking back its coming back to me now. I was at Combe in '93 having terrible difficulties with a high Revs misfire that would ultimately cut out the engine . It was so weird, in the paddock i could not recreate it, but on the track the engine would keep cutting out at high revs, the float chambers would drain and i would be stuck. I
If you do have any I'd love to see... no rush

Joe, did you race at the Brands Hatch Formula Ford Festival? I used to go until the late ninetees when I left Kent
