This lad is growing in confidence by the race......great to see. He hustled that car to pole today.

Well... thank goodness, that came as a might relief.
Mercedes ...ummmm: "Valtteri... we need you to go REALLLY slow even though you're on fresh tyres... just because ... team... things. We're not trying to manipulate things at all, honest"

We're not trying to manipulate things at all, honest" Well said. I've wondered for some time whether Valtteri Bottas, after his superb victory in Melbourne, was encouraged behind closed doors to tone down his competitive renewal. Toto Wolff praised Bottas effusively in public. Did he then take the wind out of his sails in private?

seems like a race of some dubiousness, I started to watch the C4 show and the ever puerile moronic start finished my interest off instantly, grow up C4 for crying out loud, so watched the highlights on utub and the ever enthusiastic Croft grated, why oh why do these people think their audiences so immature? because they are, pathetic?
good start by Charles and he really did look class, I have no idea how Seb undercut him, perhaps those who watched it with more intent understand that better than I do, but shameful of Mercedes to manipulate as they did, but I guess they can.
Renaults looked good but a lot of paint swapping by so many cars may have confused me even further, when is a car along side another car deemed overtaking I mused as I watched yet another 'accident' befall more expensive repair,
For all its showiness and glitter I did wonder what the race would look like in daylight, after all Singapore is one spectacular place that probably doesn't need the gimmickry of F1 showboating

Essentially i think the undercut was significantly stronger than expected, so that even though Leclerc was brought in the very next lap, and had a shorter stop, Vettel's out lap was strong enough to ease him ahead. In addition, so long was spent backing up the whole field to prevent undercuts that when the time came for Leclerc and Hamilton to push.. they couldn't. I can't say i have a whole lot of sympathy for the situation or that the race was particularly satisfying... even though i was very relieved that Seb has returned to winning ways.
I don't think the undercut was a deliberate piece of manipulation by Ferrari, i'm not sure currently they can plan things that closely, even if SKY of course suggested it, claiming it might have been payback for Monza. I was mildly amused that SKY present it as such whilst ignoring the manipulation that Mercedes did.
SKY really are bad, are C4 as bad? Croft is truly appalling as a commentator and i've never been very fond of Brundle.
I liked the John Watson/Ben Edwards team when it was at Eurosport 20odd years ago, but i haven't been very impressed with Edwards when i've heard him more recently and DC has never been a favourite.

Good points Carl, Chris and Joe. I actually think it was the perfect result for Ferrari. They now have a very motivated young charger and a newly confident old hand. Two complete drivers instead of the one and a half it looked like after Monza. I feel sorry for Charles but chuffed for Seb, who grabbed the opportunity when it came. He was also pretty mighty making his way through the people ahead who were actually backmarkers without blue flags. Mark Hughes report on the MotorSport site is excellent.
I think Binotto is a class act and his body language said it all when dealing with Leclerc's agent after the race. Ferrari come first, drivers and egos second. I think Charles handled himself very well when talking with the media and I must agree with John Charles' view that he has a lot of Senna's character traits. I think the respect shown between Lewis and Seb during the interviews in the enclosure after the race was nice to see.
Albon and Norris did well. I really like those two and watching them get interviewed, it is so refreshing.

I had intended writing quite a bit about this event, but after viewing the Indycar finalé from a real race circuit at Laguna Seca it seems quite irrelevant.
Singapore is not a favourite of mine and I just cannot get my head around a night time race in F1, but hey I am getting old so.....
Also i do not like seeing races won by manipulation or strategy calls as that is not what F1 or in the good old days Grand prix racing is/was about, and the same goes for the manipulation of places either.
The good side was seeing Sebastian winning again and driving well after all of his trials and tribulations. However that race belonged to Charles Leclerc and the young man had every right to be angry at how the dice fell for him. I am left wondering that if it had been the opposite way around Ferrari would have forced them to swap around as a result. I don't know how long Charles' contract with Ferrari extends but they had better wise up in my opinion as they could well end up disenfranchising him to the extent he decides to go elsewhere in the future.
The other upside was seeing Tonto's face afterwards, absolutely diamond!!
A very steady and sensible drive by Max (never thought I would write that) and two outstanding drives by Alexander and Lando who had never driven there previously.

Really not much to add to the excellent comments above. As a Ferrari fan I was obviously very happy with the 1-2 and also happy for Seb. I did feel for Charles though but he's intelligent enough to see the bigger picture and will understand after watching the replay he was simply unlucky and it was not a team tactic to get Seb ahead of him. But it could have been a hattrick for Charles and that would have been very deserved.
As for Toto asking Bottas to slooooowwww down, not very classy. I can understand team orders sometimes but this can not be very motivating for Valtteri. And I think Valtteri's second place in the championship is under more threat than Hamilton's position.
The extreme slow race pace at the beginning was also not very exciting. They should be on the limit from start to finish.
