Goodness me a year has passed since Niki left us, where does the time go, even in these extraordinary times we find ourselves in. Niki was a man who perfected his craft to the nth degree.
Here is an interesting thought. If Louis Stanley had possessed any real self awareness he should have ditched the concept of a multi car BRM team in 1973 and concentrated on Niki and Clay as a two car set up. He might not then have lost Marlboro as a title sponsor and neither would have gone to Ferrari; BRM then might have had some more glory days.

It's a year already since Niki passed away. Here's the official F1 tribute to the great Austrian. Some really cool footage so worthwhile watching. A great driver is an obsessed driver I was at Mosport for the 1973 Canadian Grand Prix, and Lauda led at the beginning for many laps on a wet track. Most people assumed his Firestone wets allowed a rookie driver more grip and few realized the full extent of his advantage. You have also travelled some distance to see race cars in action, haven't you Carl? Here is some amateur 8mm footage of that race. It was actually the first F1 race ever where the safety car was used.

And then I thought of the tribute helmets that Lewis and Seb wore in Monaco and that was May last year. Yep, already a year. I am not sure if I would be in favour of your BRM scenario! I'd prefer Niki's success as a Ferrari driver!

You have also travelled some distance to see race cars in action, haven't you Carl? Mostly road trips in California of various distance, Laguna Seca several times. Mosport, east of Toronto in Bowmanville, was the furthest I've travelled just to see a race. I disappeared to Elkhart Lake and Road America for a few days during a family reunion and made a special effort during a long summer in Europe to attend the Italian Grand Prix. I should have quietly abandoned my friend in an art museum and seen more!

Ronnie would have joined in 1975 and been champion for the following three years and maybe even 78 & 79. I think in a T3 he would have given Mario more than enough to think about in 1978 .

i believe there is a new book out on Niki? Yes Chris, by Maurice Hamilton and a very enjoyable book it is to. Its the fifth Lauda book in my collection now and was a very worthy addition......nothing new in it really but a very enjoyable book with some nice stories nethertheless. Its made me realise that my collection is very Clark and Lauda heavy which shows the drivers I admire the most I suppose.

I am very one sided with Jimmy taking centre stage, I think maybe Pete Collins is a very distant second - i'll have to check, but i like Maurice's writing style so this Niki one is joining the collection

Have bought the Niki book - the other book I was looking at was one on Richie Ginther, but at £27 + £5 postage I am slightly resisting, but know i will succumb by the end of the week

As we would say in South Africa "Teamwork boet, Teamwork" Going by current prices GBP27 seems cheap. I am currently reading the MH book on Niki. I brought it on Kindle as I need to be selective in which books I keep due to severe space constraints and I have a few on Niki. It is good and I am enjoying it though I have read much of it before in various places but it is nice to have it in one place. I have always enjoyed MH's style of writing and used to look forward to Old Mo's Almanac in Autosport back in the day.

Will do Rob, order will be placed this morning, and let you know my feelings, although I have several other books in front of it
like yourself I like Maurice's way of writing - I am sure I had another book on Niki but at a loss what I have done with it, but do have a marvellous DVD about him, which is definetly worth watching
Jamie, interesting, I guess my second biggest collection is Team Lotus,
