Fantastic quality footage of the 1970 French Grand Prix at Clermont-Ferrand.
Thank you again, René.
A most fascinating time in Formula One, those years, when the 3 litre era (starting 1966) was still relatively new. For me, the excitement is on a completely different level (compared to the contemporary formal of F1). Real, pure racing; just the sound alone ... And everything is up the driver; pit-stops happen only if something is wrong ...
One of the races of "the chequered year" (as Ted Simon called the 1970 season) ...
On a related note, I wonder if "Grand Prix Year" of 1972 - also by Ted Simon - is the same book as "Checkered Year" of 1971. Does any one of you know this? The front page of the former indicates that it might be the same book (just with a new title), dealing (again) with the 1970 season ...

I wouldn't know, Mikael. I used to collect the Heinz Prüller year books, not these of Ted Simon.

I used to love those cutaways - they really showed the detail that went into a racing car and always left me a bit overawed by the sheer brilliance of the engineers of their time.
Re Ted Simon, I do believe I have the 1st book you show but where it is is anyone's guess I will have a look for it, but will do some research

This movie from the 1962 Monaco Grand Prix - from the series "Mediterranean Holiday" - has been posted here before. The original was recorded in 70mm movie quality, but here is a remastered version that is so clear it almost seems surreal! A real pleasure to watch!

Mikael, The film is so clear it's a pleasure to watch again, and the helicopter shots are fascinating. Narrator Burl Ives was clearly unfamiliar with motorsport, but spoke with the authority of his character in "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof" -Carl

Thank you, Carl I found out - finally - that "Mediterranean Holiday" or "Flying Clipper" actually is a full-length cinema movie - also available, now, on YouTube.
Even though the remaining parts have nothing to do with motorsport (except for a karting race for the sailors, after the Monaco GP), it's interesting, nonetheless, to get a glimpse of the World sixty years ago :-)
Cheers,
M.

Fantastic quality indeed. AI will change the world, not only for the better but we will see a lot of amazing stuff for sure. Upgrading old films and photos has reached a new level and will only get better. It won’t be long before we can watch old films as if they were made yesterday.

Go back in time with this fantastic film recording. No talking, just pure as it was. First in the pits, then action on the track.

Apropos the Austrian Grand Prix:
an interesting look behind the scenes at the Austrian GP 1978:

Very cool behind the scenes drama at the Österreichring! Gilles Villeneuve, whose sense of available grip was magical, made a nice recovery at the Hella-Licht chicane. So sad that Ronnie Peterson was gone soon after his triumph in Austria.

The first ever Formula 1 Grand Prix with modern graphics and commentary. Quite nice.

Very clever and makes it rather interesting. Only complaint for me is that they numbered the corners instead of giving them their names on the circuit map at the beginning.

I quite liked that- save for the same issue as Rob, corners have names, not numbers,
