About 6 minutes of pure joy. There are some mistakes in the captions here and there but that doesn't take anything away from the race fun. A fantastic reminder of the genius of Gilles Villeneuve that brought tears to my eyes and chills to my spine.
Thanks René! Carl, this may sound strange, but your emotions described in your post gave me goosebumps. Isn't it wonderful how, after all these years, Gilles Villeneuve still evokes emotion with so many people. All who have seen him race know he was special.

these are just wonderful, if poignant but remembering greatness had a terrible price

JC, what a beautiful photo. Just stunning and I don't remember seeing it before (and I've seen many).
Thanks!

This is what Grand Prix racing used to be like, especially at Ferrari.

This is what Grand Prix racing used to be like, especially at Ferrari. I remember these times and have actually seen it in the Zolder paddock in the early eighties. Great times. I just showed this picture to my wife and her reply was brilliant; "very practical to eat pasta on a Ferrari because nobody sees when you mess with the sause!".

I came across this yesterday, absolutely stunning. Stunning. The sharpness is amazing. Maybe digitally upgraded? Or just an excellent print. The picture was taken at Zandvoort so I was there. Unfortunately Gilles didn't finish lap 1...

JC these are just brilliant, so real, so wonderful,
Rene, I too was there, very disappointed with Gilles, but cheering on Lotus to very limited effect, the journey there was another story, a motor racing specialist coach tour of nightmare proportions, still shudder from the experience but at least I got to see Zandvoort and was so happy for that

René you could always suggest to your wife that you replace the dinning table with a Ferrari .

Unfortunately Gilles didn't finish lap 1... I do not think there has been much digital enhancement on this image René. My thoughts are that the original was taken at quite close range with a high quality prime lens and something like 100asa 35mm colour transparency film. Back in the day one could do something similar from the inside of Dingle Dell at Brands Hatch and even as a spectator you were so close that a panned shot with a 50mm standard lens got you an amazing image. In good light conditions a "slow" speed film could be used and that would illuminate much of the grain that shows from faster film speeds when enlarged.

The photo just stands out for its quality which is not the standard for that period.
I cannot see where it was taken, maybe the inside of Tarzan? I could only see it was Zandvoort because of the Ferrari importer sticker (Kroymans Ferrari importeur).
