I’ll bet it did John, some people are scumbags and that’s the end of it. Greedy low-life’s are attracted to anythingthey can make a quick buck at.....😡
I don’t think that malaise is confined to the British however.....that’s a global phenomenon in my experience😁

Your probably right Jamie, just a bit embittered by it all.
Mind you most of the English who have come to France seem to be highly dubious in my experience. Comes to something when you hear an English voice (of which there are many) in a local supermarket and you begin speaking French to the other half to avoid contact!!

Jamie, the 80's were certainly an interesting period, wine, women and song, the 70's - well when i look back i shudder how i actually managed to survive those hedonistic days-
John, that is awful and so wrong, unfortunately there are far too many unscrupulous people around - who make money out of others misery - i do believe in karma -
Having just returned from two of my favourite countries, one of which I am starting to consider moving to and whilst my French isn't great, there agin it isn't awful but if I do move there i will be fluent before I go

Chris, That is the most sound idea with regard to possible move to France, learn the language and be fluent before arriving. I haven't had a lesson in French ever and although not my fault I regret it. However I get by now and can interact with my fellow local farmers, even to having a laugh with them. A great country and so much more civilised than the Uk now, especially in the more rural areas, family life is still important here. Throughout my life I have learnt so much about my fellow man, the good; the bad; and the ugly! It does however make you appreciate really good people the more I feel. Karma does have a habit of repaying matters also; just ask dear old Teflon . John

wholeheartedly agree John, working with humans as I do is one interesting journey, and you really do come across some wonderful people who do things that amaze and [especially in the workplace, past and present] some who astonish you with their attitudes, and these people are supposed to be supporting the vulnerable,
Chris

Sad to see John Charles that you got screwed by the model shops. I had a rude experience with one of the model shops in London that I always visited when I was there. I refused to go back or even deal with them over the internet. Coming up for 25 years now. I also had a bad experience with a UK outfit that sells die casts on the internet. As a non-resident I was not supposed to pay VAT but they were not deducting it off the price like they should have. When I challenged them the staff member gave the game away but the owner tried to say the staff member didn't know what he was talking about. I cancelled my outstanding orders and reported them to HM Revenue Service. I never heard the outcome but have not dealt with them either for the last ten years.
I am sure neither of these jerks lose any sleep over me refusing to deal with them but at least they don't get my money.

I can but hazard a guess as to whom you are referring Rob, but there are some appalling dealers in the UK. I think that the one you refer to last of all is the one who currently has die-cast models on eBay at truly extortionate prices, often three times the value of identical sold by others. Never dealt with him and never will. Going back to my own enterprise it was not only some shop owners that refused to pay up after ordering kits but many encouraged us to produce the kits and promised orders, but when the time came they didn't take them, or wanted them on a sale or return basis; complete scumbags and liars. Also the tales I could tell about those who produced white metal kits in the 1970/80's would make your hair stand on end, low life's as Jamie puts it, is a moderate expression for some.
