The anticipation, the uncertainty, the jostling for competitive advantage, the hopes and fears, the bated breath, the heightened pulse rates before the lights go out... ... all at the busy intersection nearest to where we live. This is the lull before sturm und drang, the quiet before the storm, the final moments of relative sanity before racing madness descends. We're all doomed...

The St. Petersburg track utilizing an airport runway is one of the coolest street courses! The race is always exciting, mistakes are made trying to pass, and contact in Turn 1 is almost a given.

i've not seen it [St Petersburg] although just realised I am listening to Jeff Beck playing Freeway Jam- - must try and catch the race online, what with the rugger [come on Scotland!!] and improved weather and more than enough work to not leave the desk for a week - and two games of squash - car in for a service - i can see me being distracted- but joy! racing - i love it!!

Can't wait for this! It'll be interesting to see how the new aero package affects the racing (or doesn't), come on Scott Dixon!

A fantastic driver and very cool, he would have done well in Formula One. Cheers, Carl

I think he tested for Williams once back in the V10 days, nothing came of it ultimately but thatt’s definitely F1’s loss.

I saw some clips of first practice on YT and the cars look good, I really like the new styling and they have definitely shed downforce, the cars seem to be moving around a bit.
Good to see some of the smaller teams up there with the rookies (although its only first practice). I'm quite excited about this year and I'll be quietly supporting Scott Dixon although there are several drivers I'd like to do well (Graham Rahal, Robert Wickens etc etc) so i'm usually quite happy whoever wins, just want some good racing.

The new aero kit looks good. It seems Indycar has taken a more sensible direction than F1 with the looks of the cars, the screen and less downforce to improve racing. Although Indycar is a more simple format compared to F1, the FIA should have taken an example. But well, they are too arrogant for that... But let's hope for some good racing! There are more drivers I really like. Newgarden is very good and so is Hinchcliffe. Also have a weak spot for Sato. Gentlemen, start your engines!

I was thinking of starting a thread around F3 champions who didn't really make it in F1 and went elsewhere and Sato was one such person I was thinking of

Robert Wickens is on pole after several teams were caught out by rain during qualifying. Pretty awesome for his first race!

Great driving by Robert, he’s a class act.
It was quite a good session, I watched it on the excellent Indycar app 👍
